22

There are 22 girls turned out for the Prairie girls basketball team this year. They are led by 5 seniors, 3 of which were starters last season. The returning starters are Angela Wemhoff, Josie Peery and Leah Higgins. Sydney Bruner got a lot of playing time last year and Sarah Ross is up from last year’s JV squad. Juniors are Jordyn Higgins, who started a few times last season, Kristyna Krogh and Theresa Wemhoff, who were swing players last year, Kendra Duclos who was brought up for the tournaments, Alexis Hiler and Kodie Tidwell. Sophomores on the varsity squad are India Peery, who started several games last season, and Ciara Chaffee. Chaffee, Tidwell and Duclos will be swing players this year. Hope McIntire is a junior on the JV squad along with swing players Tidwell and Duclos. Sophomores on the JV team along with Chaffee are Brooklyn Riener, Ashton Landers, NakoniaNuttman and Sydnee Bruegeman. Freshmen on the team are Madison Shears, Halle Klapprich, Kyleigh Duclos and Hope Schwartz. Lori Mader returns as head coach with new assistant coaches Steve Wilson and Dave Shears. Prairie should be in the mix for the league and district titles along with Lapwai. Genesee should be a contender as well. Like volleyball, our district gets just 1½ teams to state with the second place team at District traveling to Post Falls to play Wallace in a play-in game.
