Pirates improve to 8-0
The Prairie Lady Pirates won a pair of league games this past week at Kamiah 61-16 and at home vs. Troy 50-22 to improve to 8-0 on the season headed into their showdown at Lapwai Tuesday, Dec. 12. They rolled to a 21-3 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended that to 38-10 by halftime. They led 53-14 after 3 quarters and played the fourth quarter with a running clock. Angela Wemhoff led the way with 21 points, 9 steals, 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Jordyn Higgins and India Peery also scored in double figures with 14 points each. Josie Peery and Theresa Wemhoff added 5 points each, and Sydney Bruner 2. Leah Higgins saw her first action since breaking a finger a couple weeks ago. Josie Peery also had 5 steals. Prairie meanwhile built a 14-0 lead by the end of the first quarter with Angela Wemhoff, Josie Peery and Bruner scoring 4 points each and Alexis Hiler the other 2. Prairie forced 13 first quarter turnovers. After a basket each by Bruner and Hiler in the second quarter, Troy finally got on the scoreboard with a free throw at the 5:04 mark. Prairie spread their scoring out as they took a 28-6 lead at the half. Troy finally got their first basket of the half at the 3:00 mark. To that point they had 4 points, all at the free throw line, in 8 attempts. In the third quarter Troy got 8 shots off in their offense and made 2. Both in the first 3 minutes of the quarter. After Troy’s second basket made it 31-10, Prairie reeled off 16 straight points to put the game away. Out of those 16 points Josie Peery, Jordyn Higgins and Kristyna Krogh scored 4 each and Angela Wemhoff and India Peery 2 each. Prairie led 47-11 after 3 quarters meaning the fourth was played with a running clock. Troy outscored Prairie 3-11 in the final period thanks to 4 for 5 shooting with 2 of those baskets being 3-pinters. Prior to the fourth quarter Troy attempted just one 3-point shot. Angela Wemhoff wound up leading a balanced scoring attack with 10 points with Josie Peery scoring 9. Bruner and Jordyn Higgins scored 7 each. Hiler had 6, Krogh had 5 and India Peery, Leah Higgins and Theresa Wemhoff had 2 points each. Prairie had a 28-24 edge on the boards led by Josie Peery and Leah Higgins with 5 each. Angela Wemhoff had 10 steals and 6 assists while her sister Theresa had 6 steals and India Peery had 4 steals. Bruner added 3 assists. Prairie was 20 for 50 from the field, 40%, and 8 for 19 at the line, 42%. Troy was 7 for 19 from the field, 37%, and 6 for 13 at the line, 46%. Prairie is now 8-0 on the season and 5-0 in league play. The JV team breezed to their seventh win of the season by a 38-7 score. Prairie scored the first 11 points of the game with Kendra Duclos scoring 5. Prairie led 15-2 at the end of the quarter. Prairie held Troy to 0 points and just 2 shot attempts in the second quarter as they expanded the lead to 26-2 by halftime. Ellea Uhlenkott scored 4 in the quarter while Syndee Bruegeman scored 3. Troy finally scored again in the third quarter but were still outscored 10-2 by Prairie. Kodie Tidwell scored 5 in the quarter and a highlight was NakoniaNuttman banking in a 3-pointer, the only made 3 of the game. There was a running clock in the fourth quarter and Troy outscored Prairie 2-3 in the final frame. Tidwell wound up as the leading scorer with 9 points with Duclos scoring 7. Bruegeman scored 5. Ciara Chaffee, Madison Shears and Uhlenkott scored 4 each. Nuttman scored 3 and Halle Klapprich scored 2. Prairie outrebounded Troy 31-22 with Chaffee leading the team with 7 rebounds. Shears and Tidwell ahd 6 steals each and Hope McIntire had 3 assists. Prairie was 16 for 48 from the field, 33%, and 5 for 15 from the line, also 33%.
