Sheriff's
Department Cadet Program
Fifteen area high school students are participating in the 2017-18 Idaho County Sheriff's Office Cadet Program. Each year students from Grangeville, Cottonwood, Riggins, Kooskia and Kamiah high schools are invited to participate in the program. The cadets learn various facets of law enforcement including firearms training, evidence collection and fingerprinting, they roll play deputies in arrest scenarios, ride along with deputies as well as learn dispatch and jailer duties. It is such a pleasure to work with these teenagers and help them understand that Law Enforcement is more than just arresting people, it is also about helping people, said Lieutenant Doug Ulmer, who originated the program in 2012.
