Health Workshop set for Jan. 29
The Lewis Soil Conservation District, Idaho Soil and Water Conservation District and the Clearwater Soil and Water Conservation District are hosting a soil health workshop January 29, 2019 at Ferdinand, Id, Assumption Parish Hall, 514 Maple Street. Registration at 8:30 am the workshop begins at 9:00 am. There is a $10.00 registration fee. Lunch will be served by the Assumption Parish women. Key speakers and topics targeted: Shawn Nield, NRCS State Soil Scientist Living soil is the key to soil functions. Mr. Neild will demonstrate and explain living communities that exist within the soil and how they influence soil health. Gary Lewis The Bio-Agtive method recycles agriculture internal combustion engine emissions into plant nutrients by cooling the exhaust down through the Bio-Agtive system, which is designed to capture, cool, condition, and inject emissions onto the plants or into the soil. Mr. Lewis will explain his research into how much carbon the environment/plants have been able or allowed to store and how much carbon has been lost using modern agriculture practices. Tom Gehring Knowledge learned from a Grangeville agriculture lime project. Doug Finkelnburg Results from current area research and extension efforts include mitigating acid soils, cover crop adoption, and new rotation opportunities in wheat-based cropping systems.
