Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle:

Dear Editor,
A big round of applause for Sen. Carl Crabtree and his decision to put the power in the hands of the people. Recently, Sen. Crabtree joined 24 of his Senate colleagues in passing SJR101, the proposed constitutional amendment also known as Marsy’s Law for Idaho.
Why does this vote matter? It’s simple democracy in action. By voting yes, Sen. Crabtree gave Idaho voters the ability to determine the proper course of action when it comes to giving crime victims more protection, a stronger voice and the ability to assert those rights. I for one am glad the Senator is letting the voters sort through the pros and cons of Marsy’s Law for Idaho.
For those against stronger victims’ rights, you’re one step closer to being able to have a real impact in the outcome. For now, maybe a tip of the hat is in order for Sen. Crabtree.
Thank you,
Ryan Lawrence

Redneck Review!
No. 201 - 3/4/2019
Wow!  What a week!  With apologies to readers far from this area, and compliments to locals who are readers, it must quickly be said that a follow up on last week's RNR must report the following!  Our local boy's Prairie High School basketball team moved aggressively from a third place finish at district, to the 1-A, Division 1 state championship with a string of seven victories in a row!  Going into district in second place behind Lapwai, the Prairie boys had to win two additional games just to get out of district, as they had lost to Potlatch in the qualifying game locally.  Following those two local wins, next came a long trip north for a successful encounter with Wallace, then on to McCall for another required win against Oakley. Success there sent them on to Caldwell for the state tourney, where successive wins over Challis, then old nemesis Lapwai, and finally over Potlatch in the finals gave Prairie its fifth state boys title!
Should be noted here also, that the Tri-Parish team of junior high students representing Cottonwood, Greencreek, and Ferdinand also was a credit to the local community.  The girl's team brought home the third place trophy in the all Idaho Catholic Hallissey tourney,  while the boys proudly were given the sportsmanship trophy in the boy's division, adding a big plus to the one game only they were able to win in the tourney!   Congratulations to all, and the parents who were there and supported all three teams!
The "must report" comment above is a follow up of last week's RNR where it was claimed that our local town and schools, and Camas Prairie in general, have a reputation for being a class act.  Tribute was paid there to the quality of parents and schools and community which are responsible for students who have earned a reputation over the years for quality in sports, reputation, willingness to work hard, and for success after school.
But a word of caution!  Recent events around our country should have us concerned about our country's future. New abortion laws passed in New York and other states now toy with allowing abortion survival babies to be deprived of life AFTER THE EVENT. Lord save us! The slaughter of innocents in this country now approaches 60 million since Roe vs Wade in 1973, giving the United States the horrible reputation of being one of the greatest mass murderers in history.  As one of our founding fathers,  Thomas Jefferson,  once said:  "I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever."
And what about the new ladies and men in our House of Representatives who demand that we throw out the Constitution and appoint Supreme Court justices who are willing to decide cases on current opinion?  And can it be ignored that our national debt continues to sky rocket out of control, threatening us with national bankruptcy or possible runaway inflation? Should it concern us that our nation is plagued with new hate and violence?
Well, this 80+ old man is concerned. That concern has driven me to reproduce the articles written in the mid 1980's under the title LET FREEDOM RING, and for the past almost four years with the title  RED NECK REVIEW!  For readers who at one time or other have asked about copies, said copies of both are now available at the Cottonwood Chronicle, at the Pub and Grub and Rodonnas restaurants, and can be obtained from myself.  What can be said in closing is both series, the earlier 35 years ago, and the RNRs now almost four years old, do identify trends giving us an early warning about the events which are happening! And a suggestion or two about what can be done about solving these problems as individuals. (Of see Amazon for books on these topics under the search name:  Camas Prairie!
