win in extra innings
The Prairie baseball team picked up their second win of the season with a 9-6 win in eight innings at Pomeroy Thursday, March 28. Prairie scored first with a single run in the second inning but Pomeroy answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the third. Prairie cut the lead to 1 with 2 runs in the sixth and then took a 6-4 lead with 3 runs in the top of the seventh. Pomeroy answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th due in large part to a throwing error. Prairie came right back though with 3 in the top of the 8th and Spencer Schumacher shut down Pomeroy in the bottom half of the inning for the win. Sam Mager started on the mound for Prairie, giving up 4 runs in 3 innings. Owen Anderson pitched the fourth and Schumacher cam on in the fifth and finished out the game giving up just 2 unearned runs in the 7th. Combined they limited Pomeroy to 8 hits. Prairie pounded out 12 hits in the game led by Mager and Chase Kaschmitter who each had a double and 2 singles. Anderson and Michael Schwartz each had a pair of singles while Dalton Ross and Dean Johnson each added a single. Prairie is now 2-0 on the season and won’t play again until after Spring Break when they play a league doubleheader at Kendrick on April 9.
