The Prairie Baseball team finally got back on the field for their first action since March 28 and recorded a pair of shutouts against Troy Saturday, April 13 at Airport Park in Lewiston. Tate Berdoy and Sam Mager combined on a 4 hit shutout in the opening gam  e
as Prairie won 6-0. In the second game Spencer Schumacher tossed a 5-inning
no-hitter as Prairie won 7-0. The game was called after 5 innings due to
rain.
In the opening game Berdoy was perfect through the first 3 innings while striking out 8 of the 9 batters faced. In the bottom of the first inning Berdoy led off and got hit by the second pitch he saw. He stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Owen Anderson followed with a walk and also stole second. Mager grounded back to the pitcher for an RBI groundout as Berdoy scored from third. Schumacher then grounded out to second to score Anderson, who had advanced to third on Mager’s groundout. Chase Kaschmiter singled to right center and stole second but was left there as the inning ended. Prairie went out in order in the second inning but in the third, Berdoy led off again and was hit by the first pitch he saw. He stole second and after an out, scored when Mager doubled to the gap in left center. Mager went to third on a wild pitch and then scored when Schumacher singled to right. Schumachers tole second and went to third on a passed ball. He scored on a groundout to second by Kaschmitter that made it 5-0. Berdoy gave up his first hit to open the third inning and later walked a batter after an out but a strikeout and a groundout to first got him out of the inning. Michael Schwartz led off the fourth for the Pirates and was hit by a 3-1 pitch. He stole second and then stole third but was stranded there as the inning ended. In the fifth Berdoy hit a batter but struck out the other three hitters he faced. In the bottom of the fifth Prairie faced a new pitch and he got 2 quick outs before giving up a 2 out single to right by Schumacher. The ball was misplayed in right with Schumacher making it to second. He went to third on a passed ball and then scored on a single up the middle by Kaschmitter. In the sixth Berdoy ran out of gas as he lost his pinpoint control that saw him only twice get to a 2-ball count to a hitter in the first 5 innings. He walked the leadoff hitter then got a called strike 3 after a 9-pitch at-bat to the next batter. On strike 3 catcher Dalton Ross tossed the ball to first to pick off the runner. After another walk, coach Kyle Westhoff changed pitchers and Mager was able to get out of the inning with a pop-up to short. Prairie had 1 baserunner in the bottom of the sixth as Berdoy reached on a 2-out error but Prairie didn’t score. Mager got a quick out to open the 7th then gave up a bloop double to right. After a strikeout he gave up an infield hit where the runner on second had to hold. Another single followed but the lead baserunner was held at third and Mager was able to preserve the shutout with another strikeout. Berdoy gave up just 1 hit in 5 2/3 innings with 3 walks and 13 strikeouts. Mager gave up 3 hits with no walks and 2 strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Prairie had 5 hits in the game with Kaschmitter and Schumacher each collecting 2 singles and 2 RBI. Mager added a double. In the second game Berdoy led off the top of the first with a single to left and went to second on a balk. Anderson followed with an infield single and stole second.  Berdoy
tried to score on a passed ball and was put out. A wild pitch advanced
Anderson to third and he scored on a fielder’s choice by Mager as the defense
tried to get Anderson at the plate. Schumacher then singled to right to
score Mager for a 2-0 lead. Kaschmitter beat out an infield hit but Schumacher
wound up getting put out at third as he tried to advance from first to
third on the play.
In the bottom of the first Schumacher needed just 6 pitches to set the side down in order. He had 2 high hoppers back to the mound and a strikeout on 3 pitches. Dean Johnson drew a walk in the second but couldn’t advance. In the bottom of the second, Schumacher struck out the side. In the third Anderson singled to left to open the inning and Mager beat out an infield single. Schumacher followed with a fly ball to left that was dropped and Anderson was forced out at third as he had retreated toward second on the fly ball. Schumacher duplicated Berdoy’s feat of going through the first 3 innings without allowing a baserunner as he again struck out the side in the third. In the fourth Michael Schwartz was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Michael Seubert worked a 1-out walk and Berdoy followed with a single to right that scored Schwartz to make it 3-0. Schumacher lost his perfect game in the bottom of the fourth. He opened the inning with a strikeout then gave up a walk. Catcher Sam Mager then picked off the runner at first and Schumacher got out of the inning with another strikeout. Prairie added some more runs in the fifth as Schumacher led off with a walk and Kaschmitter followed with a walk. Conner Schwartz laid down a sacrifice bunt and with 2 errors on the play both Schumacher and Kaschmitter scored and Schwartz wound up at third base. Troy changed pitchers and a wild pitch by the new pitcher scored Conner Schwartz from third to make it 6-0. After an out Johnson singled to left and went to second on a wild pitch. Seubert drew another walk and Berdoy singled to center to score Johnson and make it 7-0. In the bottom of the fifth Schumacher gave up a second walk after getting a strikeout then got out of the inning with 2 more strikeouts. With rain coming down and showing no signs of letting up anytime soon, the game was called at that point giving Schumacher a 5-inning no-hitter. He had 12 strikeouts and 2 walks. Prairie meanwhile had 9 hits. Berdoy had 3 singles and 2 RBI. Anderson had a pair of singles. Mager and Schumacher each had a single and an RBI. Kaschmitter had a single as did Johnson.
