At Grangeville

The game started like it was going to up in the 20’s on both sides as Prairie led Grangeville 9-7 after just 3 innings as the Pirates scored 2, 4 and 3 runs while Grangeville scored 1, 4 and 2 in the first 3 innings.

Vs. Genesee
Prairie put together their best defensive and pitching effort of the season in the opening game against Genesee, which was also their first home game of the season.
Genesee took the early lead with a double and a single in the first inning but then Bruegeman settled down and held Genesee scoreless over the next 5 innings before allowing another run in the seventh.Delanie Lockett tags out a Genesee runner on an attempted steal.
Prairie meanwhile had just 1 baserunner in the first 2 innings, a walk by Hope Schwartz.
In the third inning Krogh, hitting 9th in the batting order, got Prairie’s first hit, a single up the middle. She then stole second. Peery also reached when the rightfielder dropped her fly ball for an error.
With runners on second and third, Uhlenkott hit a fly ball to left. Both runners tagged up with Krogh scoring on the sacrifice fly and Peery also getting waved home by the umpire as the throw got away and went into the Prairie dugout.
That gave Prairie a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth inning Remacle manufactured a run. She singled to right and went to second on an error by the right fielder. She went to third on a wild pitch and then scored on another wild pitch for what turned out to be a big run as Prairie took a 3-1 lead.
Prairie had just 3 baserunners in the final two innings, all on walks.
Meanwhile Genesee had a lot of baserunners but stranded many of them and ran into outs on the basepaths several times.
In the second inning Genesee got a leadoff walk but catcher Tidwell threw out the runner trying to steal second.
In the third Genesee had 2 hits but still went down in order. After a leadoff single, Tidwell again threw out the runner trying to steal. With 2 outs, Genesee’s cleanup hitter doubled to the corner in left and tried to stretch it to a triple. Krogh retrieved the ball, threw to the shortstop Peery who threw to Uhlenkott at third base in time to make the tag for the out to end the inning.
In the fourth Genesee got a leadoff double with another caught stealing at third.
In the fifth Genesee got a leadoff single plus a one-out walk but two infield popups ended the inning.
In the sixth Prairie got another out on the basepaths as Genesee had a 1 out single followed by a fly ball to right that was dropped. The runner on first thought it might be caught and had gone back toward first. Centerfielder Remacle quickly picked up the ball and fired to second for a forceout.
In the seventh Bruegeman got 2 quick outs but that brought up the top of the order. A walk and passed ball was followed by a single that cut the lead to 3-2. The #3 hitter then hit a fly ball to left that Krogh caught for the final out.
Prairie had just 2 hits in the game, a single each by Krogh and Remacle.
Bruegeman gave up 9 hits and 3 runs with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.
For the first time all season Prairie had no errors.
In the second game Prairie took a short-lived lead with a run in the first inning. Peery reached on an error and Uhlenkott walked. Hiler sacrificed the runners to second and third. Peery then scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead.
Genesee tied it with a run in the bottom of the first on a leadoff double and 1-out single.
Tidwell hit a 2-out single in the second but was left on base as the inning ended.
Prairie’s errorless streak came to a crashing end in the bottom of the second as 3 errors plus a single led to 2 runs by Genesee.
Prairie answered with a run in the third as Peery led off with a double to left and scored on a single up the middle by Uhlenkott.
Genesee made it 2-5 with 2 more runs in the their half off the third. A leadoff triple was followed by 2 singles before Bruegeman got out of the inning with 3 straight strikeouts.
Prairie cut the lead to 1 run with 2 in the fourth. Peery had a 1-out double to left and scored on a pair of passed balls. Uhlenkott walk and stole second. She went to third on a passed ball and scored on another one to cut the deficit to 4-5.
They couldn’t keep Genesee off the board though as the Bulldogs plated 3 runs on 3 hits and an error.
Prairie answered back with a big fifth inning as the Remacle led off with a single to right and went to second on an error in right field. Ashton Landers doubled Remacle home. With 1 out, Krogh struck out on a pitch in the dirt but was able to get to first as Landers advanced to third.  Peery followed with an infield single as Landers scored. Uhlenkott hit a ball to the right side that hit Peery. Peery was automatically out and Landers had a single but Krogh had to go back to third. With 2 out, Hiler became the second batter of the inning to reach first on a strikeout as the ball got past the catcher. Schwartz drew a bases loaded walk to scored Krogh and Lockett walked to score Uhlenkott. Hiler scored on a passed ball and then Remacle walked to reload the bases before Genesee finally got out of the inning with a short fly ball to second.
The game was running up against the time limit so the bottom of the fifth was going to be it for the game. After 1 out and error, hit by bitch and an RBI single saw Genesee tie the game back up at 9-9. Coach Jeff Martin had the next batter intentionally walked to set up a force at home. He then had the outfielders and infielders all play in with their only hope on a non-infield popup being put in play being an out at the plate. Unfortunately the next batter singled to give Genesee a walk-off win.
Prairie had 8 hits in the game with Peery collecting 2 doubles and a single and an RBI. Uhlenkott had a pair of singles and an RBI. Landers had a double while Remacle and Tidwell each had a single.
