Pirates' season ends
The Prairie Lady Pirates closed their regular season with a pair of doubleheader sweeps giving them a 6-game winning streak that clinched third place in the final league standings. On Tuesday, April 30 they swept Lapwai 8-4 and 9-8. On Thursday, May 2, they swept Nezperce 18-0 and 15-0. All 4 games were away. With the late season push they wound up hosting Troy Monday, May 6 in a District play-in game but lost to the Trojans 1-14 to end their season. In the opener, Lapwai was the home team. Prairie scored twice in the first but Lapwai matched them in the bottom of the inning. Prairie took the lead for good in the top of the third with a pair of runs and added 2 more in the fourth. Lapwai answered with 1 in the fifth but Prairie added 2 in the seventh for an 8-3 lead. Lapwai tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh but was able to score just 1 run. Sydnee Bruegeman gave up 4 runs on 11 hits. Prairie had 12 hits led by Noelle Uhlenkot who had 3 quarters of a cycle with a triple, double and single. Delanie Lockett had a double and 2 singles. India Peery had 3 singles. Kodie Tidwell had a triple. Josie Remacle and Kristyna Krogh each had a double. Lapwai looked like they would get a split as they scored a run in each of the first 4 innings for a 1-4 lead as Prairie had just a run in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the fourth though Prairie took their first lead with a 6-run uprising. Lapwai came back with 1 in the sixth inning and 3 in the seventh to retake the lead at 7-8. In the bottom of the seventh Hope Schwartz singled home Delanie Lockett to tie the game with 1 out. With 2 outs Krogh singled home Uhlenkott from second with the winning run. Prairie had 13 hits in the game led again by Uhlenkott who had a double and 2 singles. Peery had a triple and a single. Schwartz had a double and a single. Remacle had a double and Alexis Hiler, Lockett, Tidwell and Krogh each had a single. Bruegeman gave up 8 runs on 12 hits. Prairie meanwhile took advantage of a ton of free passes. In the opening game Prairie scored 12 runs in the opening inning and followed up with 4 in the second and 3 in the third to win on the 15-run mercy rule. In the second game Prairie was the home team and scored 10 in the first inning and 5 in the second to again end the game on the 15-run mercy rule. Prairie had 8 hits in the first game with Hiler having a double and 2 singles. Ashton Landers had a pair of singles. Uhlenkott, Lockett and Schwartz each had a single. In the second game Prairie had 6 hits led by Tidwell who had a homer. Lockett had a double and Uhlenkott, Hiler, Schwartz and Krogh each had a single. Troy added 3 more in the second on 2 hits and 3 Prairie errors. Prairie had a scoring chance in the second as Landers reached on an error and went to second on a wild pitch. After a pair of strikeouts Tidwell looped a single into left. Landers might have scored if she had taken off on contact but wound up getting stopped at third. Troy then ended the inning with another strikeout. Troy added another run in the third on a hit, walk and an error. Peery led off the third with a single to right but was thrown out at second trying to stretch her single to a double. Uhlenkott followed with a single up the middle but the next two batters were put out. Troy scored 6 in the fourth inning on 4 singles, a walk and 2 errors. Prairie finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Landers led off with a single and went to second on an error on the throw back to the infield. She went to third on a passed ball and scored on Schwartz’ groundout. Tidwell then doubled to the left field corner but was stranded at second. Troy made it 1-14 with a run on 2 hits and an error in the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth Prairie needed 4 runs to keep the game going. Uhlenkott singled to left with 1 out but never got past first base as the game ended on the 10-run mercy rule. Tidwell had a double and a single while Uhlenkott had a pair of singles. Peery and Landers each added a single. Troy had 12 hits and were helped by 8 Prairie errors. Prairie winds up their season with a 9-5 record in league and 10-8 record overall.
