Prairie
receives STEM grant
Prairie Jr/Sr High School had the opportunity to receive a $2,000 STEM grant if the school was able to donate 60 pints of blood at 2 different blood drives during the 2018-19 school year. The high school had blood drives on March 26, 2019 and May 24, 2019. At the March drive, the school had 29 successful donors and the May drive had 35 successful donors bringing the total to 64, meeting the goal!! Tricia Cheevers (CEO) and Joseph Fairbanks (Territory Manager) of Vitalant (formally Inland Northwest Blood Center) traveled to the school for the awards assembly on Thursday, May 30th to present a check. This is a great opportunity for students, staff, and community members to get involved in the blood donation process and also giving the school an opportunity for money to be used in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. This years funds will be used to purchase chemicals for Chemistry, calculators for math, and a few other items that the teachers in these fields need for their classrooms for the 2019-20 school year. Vitalant is giving the school an opportunity to schedule two more blood drives next year for this same grant, Prairie Jr/Sr High School will definitely be taking advantage of this. We want to thank everybody who took the time to donate this past school year and we look forward to having 60 more successful donors next year for another $2,000 opportunity! Go Pirates! Tricia Cheevers of Vitalant presents a check to Prairie principal Jon Rehder. The $2,000 can be used for science, technology, engineering and math fields of study.
