SGA Class of 1969 holds reunion
The St. Gertrude’s Academy Class of 1969 recently celebrated their 50th class reunion, or their second 25th reunion as some of them liked to think of it.
The fun actually started clear back in December when members of the class began meeting to plan the reunion.  Six or eight would get together for supper and do a lot of visiting while making arrangements.
The actual reunion started the evening of July 5th, when twenty-one classmates and thirteen guests gathered at the Greencreek hall for an evening of visiting.  Everyone brought a large variety of snacks, which served as supper.
On Saturday morning in Cottonwood, Father Reuben, son of classmates Felix and Sherry Hoene Nuxoll had a special mass for SGA 1969.  Following mass, a delicious breakfast, consisting of sausage and egg casserole, fruit trays and cinnamon rolls, was served in the Greencreek hall.
People were on their own for the rest of the morning and afternoon until 5:00 when everyone gathered back at the Greencreek hall.  This time 25 classmates and 18 guests showed up.  Dinner was excellent tri-tip beef with all the trimmings.  Stephanie Duclos catered both meals on Saturday, and anyone who hadn’t eaten her feasts before didn’t need any convincing that she is a superb cook.
After dinner, everyone had a chance to tell a story on a classmate, or on themselves, and this caused a lot of laughter.  Old pictures were passed around, and this caused even more laughter.  It was noted that at the 10-year reunion, most of the gals had on long dresses.  Forty years later, almost all the women were in slacks or jeans.
It has been said that the more reunions a class has, the more casual and laid-back they become.  SGA 1969 can attest that this is true.  People who never visited in high school talked at length this year.  For the most part, the spouses are acquainted with everyone and comfortable in joining in and having fun.
Classmates attending from the Camas Prairie were Joyce Seubert Goeckner, Cathy Hattrup Bross, Barbara Duman Remacle, Arlene Schumacher Perrine, Jeanne Rousseau Wimer, Greg Arnzen, Ted Schmidt, Ed Wemhoff, Lyle Kuther, Bob Beckman, Felix and Sherry Hoene Nuxoll and Cathi Uhlorn Schmitz.  A special guest was Connie Forsmann, who was married to Dan.
From the Lewiston-Clarkston valley there was Peggy Roeper Snyder, Jane Steiger McLaughlin, Jacky Weisz Forsman and Vic Seubert.
Several came from the Boise area, including Donna Mager Ivie, Jim Schaff and Greg Westermeier.
Washington classmates attending were Verna Schumacher Phakoo of Veradale, Carole Uptmor McDowell of Silverdale and Randy Lustig of Moses Lake.  From Oregon there was Eileen Schwartz Radtke of Turner and Rick Morris of Ashland.
Rounding out the group were Cecilia Rousseau Bruchez of Broomfield, Colorado, Theresa Rousseau Mazade of Victor, Montana, Ron Morris of Casper, Wyoming, and John Rockwell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who had the honor of being master of ceremonies.  He was also a very special guest, because he picked up the bill for the entire reunion.  Thanks, John!!
Since the 40-year reunion in 2009, four classmates have died:  Doug Arnzen, Dan Forsmann, Lois Goeckner Arnzen, and Arlene Willenborg Cowin.  With that in mind, those present decided to have their next reunion in five years.
