7 vie for 2020 Idaho County Fair Royalty
There are 7 young ladies vying to be part of the 2020 Idaho County Fair Royalty. They will be judged at the Royalty Luncheon set for noon on Wednesday, August 7 at the Nazarene Church in Grangeville.
Contestants this year are Dani Sonnen of Greencreek, Madison Shears and Halle Klapprich of Cottonwood, and Paige Layman, Cheyanne Brown, Kaylee Doughty and Rose Sherrer, all of Grangeville.

Dani Sonnen
Dani Sonnen is the 14 year old daughter of Norm and Julie Sonnen of Greencreek. She will be a sophomore at St. John Bosco Academy in Cottonwood.
She participates in volleyball, basketball, student government, knowledge bowl and drama in high school. She has been a member of the Idaho County Livestock Judging Team, a STAC delegate for 2 years and a 9 year member of the Greencreek Active Workers 4-H Club where she has served as historian and treasurer. She is currently on the Fashion Board and an Idaho County 4-H Ambassador.
For the Fair she has taken a market lamb and a bucket calf for one year, market pig and rabbit for 2 years, market steer for 3 years, and Making the Most of Me for 5 years.
To make money she has done childcare to various families, wrapped meat at Sonnen Meats, worked cows at the family ranch and assisted here grandparents with landscaping their year.
She enjoys riding horses, playing sports, finding ways to express creativity through decorating and spending quality time with family and friends.
She plans to attend college and get a degree in business and interior design.
Three life goals are to live out her Catholic faith, use her creativity to inspire people to be the best they can be, and to get married and start a family.
She feels her determination is her strongest personality quality. As an example, when she was younger she wanted to take a steer for 4-H but her parents thought she was too young. She came up with an alternate place: she would take a bucket calf and use him as her steer the following year. She fed him a bottle through the winter months and cared for him for two fair years.
Her most important things in life are God and her family. God has revealed his greatness and his love to her. Her family is always there for her and her parents taught her how to have a close relationship with God.
She has one older sister, Jessie, who she says is a great role model for her along with 4 younger siblings: Rachel, Will, Tessa and MacKenzie. Her dad works hard to support the family and taught her the importance of hard work while her mom is very loving and taught her to always look on the bright side.
She has lived in Idaho County her entire life.

Madison Shears
Madison Shears, 16, is the daughter of David and Erin Shears of Cottonwood. She will be a junior at Prairie High School this fall.
She participates in basketball, volleyball, softball and Prairie League at school while also participating in youth group and the Greencreek Active Workers 4-H Club.
Her past Fair involvement includes membership in 4-H along with market lambs and Making the Most of Me.
For employment she does babysitting during the summer and also does lawn mowing.
Her hobbies include sports, hunting, fishing, swimming, eating, sleeping and volunteering the community.
After high school she plans to play either volleyball or basketball at the College of Idaho and earn a teaching degree.
Her 3 life goals are to be a role model for all children; be a mother to her kids like her mom is to her; continue to help anyone she can in any way.
She feels her strongest personal quality is being helpful. She always helps out with activities in the community and puts others’ needs before her own.
Most important in her life is her family. They all love and support her in anything she does and they all want the best for her and for her to succeed in life.
In addition to her parents Dave and Erin, who she says are the most loving of parents, she has 2 younger brothers: Keenan and Carter, who she says although they can be pains, she loves them to death and always will.
She has lived in Idaho County all her life.

Halle Klapprich
Halle Klapprich is the 16 year old daughter of Heath and Tara Klapprich of Cottonwood. She will be a junior at Prairie High School this fall.
At school she participates in volleyball and track and field as well as HOSA and Prairie League. Outside of school she participates in 4-H, Youth Group and is a member of the Idaho County Fashion Board.
Past Fair involvement includes 4 years of Making the Most of Me, 3 years of cake decorating, 2 years of Survival, 7 years of sewing, 3 years of steers, 1 year of leadership, 2 years of rabbits, 1 year of photography, 4 years of lambs and 2 years of table setting/demonstrating contest.
For employment she helps with the bookkeeping at Klapprich Auto & Ag, works at the Klapprich Ranch, babysits for Sarah Tacke and does yardwork for her grandmother Joanne McHugh.
Hobbies include volleyball, running, photography, hunting, sewing, fishing and drawing.
After high school she plans to go to college and major in biology and pre-med. Once she earns her B.S. she plans to attend a medical school with an emphasis on surgery.
3 life goals are to graduate high school with good grades; to become a pediatric general surgeon; and to get married and have a small family.
She feels her strongest personal quality is that she is dependable. She was raised to be helpful and reliable and believes your word means a lot. That means if you say you will do something then you need to do it.
The most important things in her life are her family and her faith. She has a large immediate and extended family and they spend a lot of time together and are very close. Some of her best friends are her cousins and siblings. Her faith is really important. She is involved in the Parish youth group and attends to retreats every year. She considers her faith when making decisions and choosing how to live her life.
She is the oldest of 6 children in her family. Her siblings are Olivia, age 15; Miranda, age 13; Dylan, age 11; Ava, age 7 and Ruby, age 4. Her dad is a mechanic and her mom is an accountant. Her parents are very supportive and attend almost all of her games and 4-H activities and support her hobbies. They enjoy hiking, camping fishing and hunting trips together.
Her parents moved back to Cottonwood when she was 10 months old and she has lived in Idaho County ever since. Both parents are born and raised here.

Alayna “Rose” Sherrer
Alayna Sherrer, who goes by her nickname of Rose, is the 16 year old daughter of Colt and Krystyna Sherrer of Grangeville. She is home schooled and will be a senior this year.
She is currently the president of the Lively Livestock 4-H Club and is a 4-H Ambassador. She has participated in Cornerstone Theater for about 5 years. She helps with Girls Group, starting as one of the youngest and now is one of the oldest. It is for girls age jr. high to high school. She is also involved in her church youth group. She is also a lifetime member of the American QuarterHorse Youth Association. She has also helped with the summer reading program at Grangeville Centennial Library and at Cristo Vive, a Biblical camp for mentally disabled. She has also attended Alacca Bible Camp for 5 different years. Recently she went down to Texas with Reach Global to do a mission trip and help finish building and fixing houses affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Her past Fair involvement includes being in MOD Squad in 2017 and being an Idaho County 4-H Ambassador for 2018 and 2019.
Currently she works at Ewing Groundskeeping.
Her hobbies include horseback riding, crochet and writing stories.
After high school she plans to take 1 or 2 years off before going to college to become a veterinarian. During that time off she plans to save up and go on a mission trip.
Her 3 life goals are to graduate as a licensed veterinarian from WSU; marry a wonderful man and have a family; and make an impact on someone’s life.
She feels her strongest personality trait is her enthusiasm because when she decides to do something she does it whole-heartedly with a positive attitude.
Most important in her life is her family and her fur family. Her family has always supporting her in the things she does and she has always had a very close connection with her animals or “fur family.”
She is the oldest of 3 children. She has two brothers, Kaleb, 13 and Gabe, 11. Her mom is very organized, determined and truthful. Her dad is very mechanically inclined and a jack of all trades.
She has lived in Idaho County all her life.

Paige Layman
Paige Layman is the 17 year old daughter of Jerod and Jackie Layman of Grangeville. She will be a senior at Grangeville High School.
She is involved in 4-H and is currently an Idaho County 4-H Ambassador. At school she is involved in basketball, volleyball and track.
She has participated at the Idaho County Fair for the past 11 years and is currently an Ambassador.
For employment she currently has some applications in process.
She enjoys hunting, fishing and dirtbike riding.
She plans to attend the University of Idaho and study Fishery Resources.
Her 3 life goals are to get her Bachelors of Science degree; be successful in her future career; and have a healthy, prosperous life.
She feels her strongest personal quality is that she is a team player. A person needs to be able to inspire others. As a team player she inspires others to do our best and work together. She stays committed and follows through.
Most important in her life is her family. They have influenced her throughout her life. They support her, provide love and care for her and she appreciates everything they do for her.
She has two sibling, Lelah and Jakob. Her mom, Jackie, does home health, while her father Jerod is a supervisor at Idaho Forest Group. They used to live in Elk City but moved to Grangeville when she was 3.
She has lived in Idaho County her whole life.

Cheyanne Brown
Cheyanne Brown is the 15 year old daughter of Angie Brown and Jack Kummet of Grangevillle. She will be a sophomore at Grangeville High School.
She is an active member of FFA in Grangeville and will be president of the chapter this upcoming school year. She is also involved in HOSA, volleyball, basketball and softball at school.
She attends the Fair every year and helps her friend clean out her pig’s pen. She is not involved in 4-H but is involved in FFA.
For employment she works in customer service at Grangeville Cash & Carry.
She loves being outdoors. She loves fishing, hunting, camping, helping on the farm and anything to help others.
She doesn’t know what the future holds but she plans to go to college at Boise State and study anesthesiology.
Her 3 life goals include attending BSU; joining the FFA Alumni; and living in a farmhouse somewhere in Idaho and become an anesthesiologist.
She feels her strongest personal quality is her compassion. She cares more about others than herself. She would go above and beyond for someone she doesn’t even know before herself.
Her family is the most important thing in her life because they are always there, always make her laugh and always love her endlessly. She wouldn’t be where she is today without the support of her family.
She is very close to her family and they spend as much time together as they can. She has two younger brothers, Trenton, age 14, and Zayne, age 9.
She has lived in Idaho County her entire life.

Kaylee Doughty
Kaylee Doughty is the 16 year old daughter of Christina and Ken Doughty of Grangeville. She will be a junior at Grangeville High School.
She is involved in basketball, track and volleyball at school. She also helps her basketball coach at her summer camp teaching little girls how to play.
In past Fairs she has entered quilts and also 4-H ceramics.
She works at Your Best Friends Quilt Shop at Grangeville.
She enjoys riding horses, sewing and machine quilting as well as anything outside. She also enjoys planting flowers in the Springtime.
After high school she plans to go to college to get a paralegal degree and then later on go back to get a Juris Doctor degree.
Her 3 life goals are to graduate from high school; graduate from college; and live a successful life.
She feels her strongest personal quality is that she is very patient. She is also willing to work with others and hear any ideas they may have.
Her family is the most important thing in her life because she knows they will always be there for her no matter what happens.
She has an older brother that loves to golf and also works with her dad. Her parents are both entrepreneurs. Her mom owns a quilt shop and her dad owns an HVAC business.
She has lived in Idaho County her entire life.
