Lady Pirates win two league matches
An improving Lady Pirates volleyball team picked up a pair of wins this past week. On Tuesday, Oct. 1 they beat Potlatch 25-15, 25-17, 18-25, 25-21 at Cottonwood and on Thursday, Oct. 3 they swept Kamiah 25-20, 25-18, 25-16 at Kamiah.
Vs. Potlatch
The match against Potlatch was also the Think Pink match to raise funds for breast cancer research. The senior project of Madison Shears raised over $1500.

Prairie led 5-3 when Delanie Lockett scored on a tip and Shears went to the service line. 2 aces, a kill by Lockett and a back row attacker violation against the Loggers gave Prairie a 10-3 lead.
After a sideout plus another point by Potlatch, Lockett scored again on a kill to put herself on the service line. After a kill each by Halle Klapprich and Ellea Uhlenkott, Prairie was up 13-5.
Prairie held the lead at 7-8 points until Lockett’s next turn at serving where she had an ace and Tara Schlader added a kill for a 23-14 lead.
Potlatch answered with a pair of points before bricking a serve to make it 24-15.
Trinity Martinez then scored the game-winning point by blocking a Potlatch spike attempt.
Potlatch took a lead in the second game but a kill and than an ace by Shears put Prairie on top 5-4. 
After a sideout, a kill then an ace by Lockett made it 7-5.
Uhlenkott served up 2 aces and Martinez added a kill for an 11-6 lead.
A block by Martinez and an ace by Ashton Landers put Prairie up 16-8.
An ace by Sierra McWilliams followed by a kill each by Shears and Uhlenkott led to a Potlatch timeout at 20-9.
Prairie’s biggest lead of the game came at 22-10 after a kill by Landers and an ace by Shears.
A kill by Klapprich gave Prairie a game-point chance at 24-14. The Loggers fought off game-point 3 times before bricking a serve to give Prairie a 2 games to 0 lead.
Up by 2 games coach Julie Schumacher gave the bench players a chance to play in game 3. 
Schwartz served Prairie to a quick 3-0 lead with 2 aces plus a kill by Sydnee Bruegeman.
Potlatch rallied back for a 4-6 lead before missing a serve. An ace by Bruegeman plus a kill by Brooklyn Riener put Prairie back on top at 7-6.
Potlatch answered back with 3 straight points to retake the lead and never surrendered it.
Prairie kept it close until late in the game when Potlatch put several points together and wound up winning by 7 points.
Potlatch looked to carry that momentum into the fourth game as they took a 0-2 lead before missing a serve.
Schwartz served 3 aces and Martinez added a kill as Prairie took a 5-2 lead.
Prairie led by 4 after an ace by Shears at 10-6 but Potlatch came back to retake the lead at 11-12.
A free ball kill by Shears sent Uhlenkott to the service line for 3 aces plus a kill by Klapprich that made it 16-12.
Prairie lead by as many as 6 on 3 different occasions at 19-13, 20-14 and 21-15 before the Loggers rallied back within 2 at 22-20.
At that point they missed a served and a kill by Uhlenkott gave Prairie match point at 24-20. 
Potlatch fought it off once time before a block by Uhlenkott scored the match winner.
Martinez had 13 kills in the match which included 3 blocks. Shears had 10 kills, 21 assists and 5 aces. Lockett had 9 kills, 2 assists and 2 aces. Uhlenkott had 7 kills including a block and 5 aces. Tara Schlader had 5 kills, Klapprich had 4 kills. Schwartz had 2 kills, 20 assists and 8 aces. Erin Chmelik had 2 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Hope Schwartz serves up an ace to start the match against Potlatch.Riener had 2 kills. Landers had 1 kill and 2 aces. McWilliams and Bruegeman each had 1 kill and 1 ace.
The JV team, which also lost at Potlatch, won this time 23-25, 25-15, 15-5.
Prairie struggled at the start of game one as they fell behind 0-6 and 1-8.
They were still down 12-22 when Potlatch missed a serve and Delanie Lockett went to the service line. Lockett served Prairie right back into the game with 8 straight points. She had 3 aces while Jade Prigge had 3 kills and Mackenzie Key and Kristin Wemhoff each added a kill as Prairie got within 1 point at 21-22 before Lockett finally missed on a serve.
After that missed serve, Prigge scored a sideout kill and Key scored on a tip to tie the game at 23-23. Potlatch then scored the final 2 points to win the game.
That rally seemed to give the Prairie JV some confidence as they jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the second game. Wemhoff, Lockett and Prigge each had an ace while Key and Tara Schlader each had a pair of kills.
Olivia Klapprich served up 2 aces and Prigge added another kill as Priarie took a 16-8 lead.
A kill each by Lockett and Prigge made it 18-9.
Potlatch got back within 6 at 20-14 but Prairie held on and finished off the game with a kill by Key and an ace by Schlader.
The deciding third game was close until Prigge went to the service line at 4-3. She served 5 straight points for a 9-3 lead. She had an ace while Wemhoff, Laney Forsmann and Key each had a kill while Prigge picked up a kill as well when digging a spike.
After Prigge missed a serve, Forsmann scored a kill to send Klapprich to the service line. Two aces plus a kill each by Forsmann and Wemhoff made it match point at 14-4. 
Potlatch scored the sideout but then Wemhoff set up Forsmann for the match winning kill.
The C team split their two games.
At Kamiah
In a league match at Kamiah Thursday, Oct. 3, Prairie recorded their first 3-game sweep of the season over the Kubs.
McWilliams had 5 kills, 10 assists and 2 aces on the night while serving 100%. Landers added 7 assists and an ace. Lockett also played well in the sweep.
The JV team also swept Kamiah, no scores available.
Prairie is now 3-6 on the season and 3-5 in league play.
