Pirates win two of 3 matches, also win Nezperce Tournament
It was a busy week for the Prairie Volleyball team with 3 league matches plus a tournament. They won 2 of the 3 league matches and were the championship team at the tournament. On Tuesday, Oct. 8 they beat Clearwater Valley 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, 28-26 at Kooskia to avenge an earlier loss. On Thursday, Oct. 10 at Cottonwood, they were swept by Genesee 19-25, 8-25, 24-26. On Monday, Oct. 14, also at Cottonwood, they swept Kamiah 25-20, 25-22, 25-22. On Saturday, Oct. 12 they beat Highland in the championship match of the Nezperce Tournament. 
A kill by Trinity Martinez opened the game and Hope Schwartz followed with 2 aces for a 3-0 lead. Prairie held the lead until C.V.’s Shad Edwards put together a 6 point serving run that turned an 11-9 Prairie lead into an 11-15 deficit. Prairie trailed until Ashton Landers served 2 aces following a sideout kill by Erin Chmelik that made it 19-18. C.V. took back the lead at 20-21 on a net violation. Prairie managed to tie the game at 22 on an ace by Ellea Uhlenkott but C.V. then scored the final 3 points to win the game. C.V. took a 1-3 lead in the second game but a kill each by Delanie Lockett and Uhlenkott followed by an ace from Landers put Prairie into the lead. C.V. tied it but a kill by Lockett, a dig for a kill by Sierra McWilliams and an ace by Madison Shears made it 7-4 Prairie. After a C.V. sideout, a kill by Shears was followed by a 5-point service run by Lockett who had 3 aces with Uhlenkott adding a pair of kills for a 13-5 lead. C.V. got back within 4 at 15-11 before back to back kills by Martinez and an ace by Landers made it 18-11. C.V. again pulled within 4 at 20-16 and 21-17 but a kill be Uhlenkott, a kill by Lockett and 2 aces by Shears gave Prairie an 8-point win to tie the match at a game each. C.V. took a 1-6 lead in the third game but Prairie came back to tie it at 7-7 only to fall back by 3. Prairie took their first lead at 12-11 on a kill by Halle Klapprich. C.V. tied it and then took a 14-15 lead. Prairie tied it on a kill by Klapprich and then took back the lead on a kill by Shears. Landers followed with 2 aces. Martinez added a pair of kills and another ace by Landers finished off a 6-point service run that led to a 21-15 lead for Prairie. C.V. got back within 3 at 22-19 but a kill by Martinez and a block by Uhlenkott and Shears made it 24-19. An under the net violation led a sideout but Lockett ended the match with a kill off of a C.V. blocker. The fourth game was a battle from start to finish as neither team could build much of a lead. Prairie’s biggest lead was 4 at 15-11 and C.V.’s biggest lead was 3 at 15-18 after scoring 7 straight against the Pirates.  Prairie
looked like they might win it when they forged a 21-21 tie on a tip by
Klapprich and then took a 23-21 lead as Klapprich scored 2 more kills.
A net violation on Prairie followed by 2 C.V. aces gave C.V. a game-point chance. A tip by Klapprich tied it but C.V. scored a sideout for another game-point chance. A kill by Shears tied it but Prairie then missed their serve. A kill by Lockett fought off another game point by C.V. and an ace by McWilliams gave Prairie a match point chance. Lockett came through with a kill to win the match as C.V.’s attempted return went wide. Lockett had 16 kills and 7 aces in the match. Martinez added 13 kills. Shears had 11 kills, including a block, with 18 assists and 4 aces. Uhlenkott had 11 kills, including 2 blocks, with 2 assists and 3 aces. Klapprich had 7 kills. McWilliams had 3 kills, 2 assists and 2 aces. Landers had 2 kills, 21 assists, and 7 aces. Schwartz had 1 kill, 9 assists and 2 aces. Chmelik had 1 kill, 1 assists and 3 aces. The JV team swept C.V. 25-13, 25-19, 15-6. In the opening game Jade Prigge had 4 aces in a row to turn a 9-5 lead into a 13-5 lead. Two service turns later it was Kristin Wemhoff’s turn to serve 3 aces in a row and Laney Forsmann added a kill for a 20-7 lead. Prairie then held on for a 12-point win. In the second game C.V. missed their opening serve and Tara Schlader then served 7 straight aces for an 8-0 lead. C.V. managed to rally back though and pulled within 1 at 15-14. A kill by Forsmann scored the sideout but C.V. came right back to again pull within 1. A kill by Schlader for a sideout and a kill by Wemhoff and an ace by Schlader made it 19-15. C.V. came back to gain pull within 1 before Schlader scored a kill. Riley Enneking then served 3 aces and Josie Remacle added a kill to get to game point. A missed spike scored the sideout but C.V. then missed their serve to give the game to Prairie. Wemhoff served Prairie to a 4-0 lead in the third game with an ace and a kill each by Mackenzie Key and Forsmann. C.V. pulled within 1 at 6-5 before a kill by Remacle sent Olivia Klapprich to the service line. Klapprich served 6 straight points with 4 of those coming on aces as Prairie took a 13-5 lead. After a C.V. sideout, a kill each by Wemhoff and Key gave Prairie the 3-game sweep. The C team also won all 3 games. On a sad note though, during warmups, in a freak accident, Martinez suffered a broken leg and will miss the rest of the season and also likely all of basketball season. The JV team lost 2 of 3 games to Genesee while the C team swept their 3 games. Round Robin action was 2 sets to 25 against each of the other 3 teams with the top 2 teams facing off in the championship match and the other 2 facing off in a third place match. 
Prairie split with Highland in their first match 10-25, 25-15. They then swept Nezperce 25-23, 25-21. They finished off round-robin action with a sweep of Kamiah, 25-15, 25-16. After Nezperce beat Kamiah for third place, Prairie defeated Highland 26-24, 25-17 in a best 2 out of 3 match. In the first game against Highland, Prairie fell behind 2-7. They rallied within 2 at 5-7 but then fell back again as the Huskies came away with a dominant 10-25 win. Prairie led just twice at 1-0 and 2-1. In the second game they fell behind 0-2 but Highland then missed their serve and Landers put together a 7-point run. She had 2 aces with Brooklyn Riener and Shears adding 2 kills each. After 2 points by Highland, Shears scored a kill and McWilliams served for 3 points. Uhlenkott scored on a block and a kill and McWilliams added an ace for a 12-4 lead. After 6 straight sideouts, Riener scored 2 kills with Klapprich serving for a 17-7 lead. Prairie held close to that 10-point lead the rest of the game to even the match at 1 game each. Next up for Prairie was Nezperce and it was a close battle from start to finish in the opening game. Prairie led most of the way but never by more than 4 points. Nezperce’s never led after bricking a serve with a 3-4 lead. They tied it at 13 and again at 16 and 17. A kill by Uhlenkott made it 18-17 and Schwartz served 3 points to give Prairie a 21-17 lead, their biggest of the game. Shears had a kill and Schwartz added 2 aces. Nezperce came back to tie the score at 21-21 and again at 22 and 23 but Prairie answered each time. A missed serve by Nezperce made it game-point for Prairie and Josie Remacle scored the game-winning kill for Prairie. In the second game Nezperce took an early 4-7 lead. Prairie came back to take a 9-8 lead after a kill by Uhlenkott but Nezperce answered to take a 10-13 lead. Prairie trailed 12-14 when a free ball kill by Klapprich scored a sideout. An ace by Landers, a kill each by Remacle and Shears and 2 aces by Landers gave Prairie an 18-14 lead. Nezperce was able to get back within 1 at 19-18 but a kill be Klapprich ended that push. McWilliams served an ace the a tip by Uhlenkott, a kill by Shears and another ace and it was match point at 24-18. Nezperce fought off 3 match points before a free ball return by Klapprich led to a 2-hit violation. Prairie needed 1 win against Kamiah to advance to the championship match. They trailed early but a 5 point run by McWilliams that included 4 aces gave Prairie an 11-6 lead. Prairie never trailed again and when McWilliams serving turn came up again at 22-15, she served out the game with 3 straight aces. The second game was close until a 4 point run by Landers. She had an ace and Riener scored 2 kills with Shears adding another to build a 16-9 lead. A 3-point run by McWilliams made it a 9-point margin at 21-12. Shears served an ace to get it to match point at 24-13. Kamiah fought off 3 match points before Shears tipped the ball over in 2 for a game-winning kill. Prairie took a 5-1 set record into the championship while Highland was second at 3-3 as they split with each of the other 3 teams. Highland jumped ut to a 1-7 lead and led much of the way. Prairie took their first lead at 15-14 on a kill by Chmelik and again at 16-15 on a kill by Schwartz. Highland took the lead back and led 16-20. Highland had triple game-point at 22-24 when Shears scored a kill. Klapprich followed with 2 aces that gave Prairie a game-point chance. Remacle then scored the game-winning kill. In the second game it was just 7-5 after a bricked serve by Highland. McWilliams then went to the service line for a 9-point run that tilted the game in Prairie’s favor. Uhlenkott started things with a kill. 2 aces by McWilliams and a kill by Shears made it 11-5. 5 straight aces by McWilliams followed to make it 16-5. Highland never got any closer than 7 the rest of the way as Prairie held on to win the tournament. For the day Klapprich had 22 kills, 1 assist and 4 aces. Shears had 18 kills, including a block with 41 assists and 5 aces. Uhlenkott had 14 kills, including a block with 5 aces. Remacle had 11 kills. Schwartz had 10 kills, 8 assists and 2 aces. Riener had 9 kills, 1 assists and 1 ace. Chmelik had 8 kills, including a block and 2 aces. McWilliams had 6 kills, 3 assists and 21 aces. Landers had 5 kills, including a block, 33 assists and 13 aces. Laney Forsmann had 4 kills, including a block, and 1 ace. Sydnee Bruegeman had 3 kills, including a block. With 2 aces, Landers served Prairie to a 3-0 lead in the opening game.  McWilliams
also had 2 aces in a 4-point service run that made it 9-3. Soon after,
Shears served an ace to make it 11-4, Prairie’s biggest lead of the game.
Kamiah eventually rallied back within 1 at 20-19 at which time Prairie took a timeout. Shears scored a sideout kill and Klapprich scored a pair of kills to make it 23-19. After a missed serve Prairie got the serve back on a kill by Bruegeman. Klapprich then scored the game-winning kill. Kamiah held a lead early in the second game but it turned when Uhlenkott took a service turn. Riener scored a sideout kill to tie it at 7-7. Uhlenkott then served 7 straight points for a 14-7 lead. She had 3 aces while Remacle had 2 kills and Riener and Schwartz each added a kill. Kamiah wouldn’t go away quietly though as a missed serve made it 19-12 then Kamiah’s Destiny Knight served 8 straight points to give the Kubs a 19-20 lead. Lockett scored the kill that broke that run and Uhlenkott put Prairie back on top with a kill. Kamiah tied it at 21 and again at 22 then Schwartz scored a sideout that sent Lockett to the service line. A tip by Schwartz and then a kill by Riener gave Prairie a 3-point win. Prairie took a 3-0 lead in the third game only to see the Kubs rally back for a 5-6 lead. Prairie took the lead for good on 3 aces by Landers plus a kill each by Klapprich and Uhlenkott that made it 15-10. Later Shears had a 4 point service run that got Prairie to match point at 24-16 as she had an ace while Bruegeman had 2 kills and Riener added another. Then things came unraveled for Prairie as Kamiah fought off match point 6 straight times before coach Julie Schumacher called a timeout with the score at 24-22. We doubt she laid out in the timeout how the winning point was going to be scored. Chmelik made a pass to Shears who hit the ball toward the net. It hit the top of the net and had enough spin to roll over the top and straight down on Kamiah’s side to end the match. Uhlenkott had 7 kills, including a block, plus an assist and 3 aces. Bruegeman had 7 kills and an ace. Klapprich also had 7 kills. Shears had 6 kills, 15 assists and 3 aces. Riener had 4 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Schwartz had 4 kills and an assist. McWilliams had 3 kills, 1 assist and 3 aces. Lockett had 3 kills and an assist. Remacle had 3 kills. Landers had 1 kill, 18 assists and 7 aces. Chmelik had 1 kill, 2 assists and an ace. Schlader had 1 kill. Prairie is now 5-7 on the season and 5-6 in league play. The JV team also swept the Kubs 25-20, 25-11, 15-12. In the opening game they fell behind early and trailed for the most part until taking a lead on a kill by Forsmann. Kamiah tied it and then Forsmann scored 2 more kills for a 14-12 lead. Key added an ace to make it 15-12. The two teams traded sideouts for 6 straight points until Prigge went to the service line. She served 2 straight points to give Prairie a 20-16 lead on a kill each by Key and Dani Sonnen. Kamiah then answered with 4 straight to tie it at 20. Key scored the sideout kill and Olivia Klapprich then served out the game. She had an ace and Key and Schlader each had a kill. Prairie never trailed in the second game as they took a 5-1 lead as Wemhoff had an ace and Key added 2 more. The lead stayed between 2 and 4 until Forsmann scored a kill and then a block and Key added a kill for a 13-7 lead. An ace by Riley Enneking made it 15-8. Ali Rehder serve 4 straight to stretch the lead to 11 as she had 3 aces and Prigge added a kill. At 21-11 Schlader was able to serve out the game. She had an ace while Rehder added free ball kill and Remacle knocked down a spike. In the third game things went back and forth until Kamiah put together a 4 point run to take a 9-12 lead. Wemhoff scored on a tip for the sideout and Ali Rehder served out the match. Wemhoff scored on a dig. Key and Julia Rehder each scored a kill. Ali Rehder served and ace and Key ended it with a kill.
