15 Quilts of Valor presented
The School Board held their November meeting Monday, Nov. 18.
Approved for hire was Justin Jones as boys JV/Assistant Basketball coach. Jones is one of the new doctors at St. Mary’s Hospital.
HOSA members Chloe Rowland and Olivia Klapprich informed the board that they will be doing a presentation on Dec. 16 to the junior high about vaping, alcohol, drugs and smoking and how they adversely affect people. They have 4 presenters lined up for that day starting at 12:30 p.m. they have a couple of inmates who will talk about alcohol and drugs and how they helped put them where they are. A woman who started with a few drinks, progressed to several a day and then into meth. They also have a respiratory therapist to explain just what vaping does to your lungs.
Holli Schumacher is also working with Rowland and Klapprich on this but was unable to attend.
They plan to have a followup to report on how they think the program went at a future board meeting.
Jeff Martin was approved for an alternate authorization as he pursues his tech ed endorsement.
Board members talked about the seminars they attended at the school board convention.
A couple of policy items discussed at the October meeting that board members had some issues with were updated and approved.
In the facility report Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann reported they need to start looking at the high school gym roof.
They are also looking into upgrading the bell/intercom system. They would cost about $50,000. The current system has a DOS-based operating system and you can’t get parts to fix it anymore.
Upcoming projects include upgrading the water line from the well to the cistern at the Monastery. The school district shares cost in those upgrades with the Monastery since that is where the junior/senior high building gets their water.
Also finishing the Elementary School roof and resurfacing the parking lot at the high school.
In administrative reports Forsmann noted they had excellent turnout at parent-teacher conferences with 97% attendance.
The PBIS program monitoring and rewarding good behavior is going very well.
The Elementary concert has been set for Friday, December 13 at 1 p.m.
One of the students is a winner in a calendar art contest and will be honored at the Nov. 26 assembly.
Andrea Brannan received a $550 grant to take the 3rd grade students to the Schweitzer Science Museum.
In her superintendent’s report she said the calendar committee will be meeting in December.
She also said the Active Threat Training held Nov. 14-17 went well.
Jon Rehder reported the Veteran’s Day assembly held Monday, Nov. 11 went well. They had 34 veterans in attendance.
They had 48% participation in parent-teacher conferences.
The ASVAB test will be held Nov. 20.
The Idaho County Shootout with Grangeville is scheduled for Dec. 6 at Prairie with the JV games at Grangeville on the 4th.
There are 16 girls out for basketball.
He didn’t have a firm number of boys out yet as many are still playing football. It appears to be about 17.
He’s working the kinks out with the new heaters.
Teachers have been doing a good job recognizing students with the Pirates “aRRRgh” cards.
The high school concert is set for Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m. The next regular meeting is set for Monday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
