Cochran
receives award
Danielle Cochran has been named as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of Idaho’s Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and will a contender for the VFW’s national award. She is also a finalist for one of the State of Idaho’s Brightest Star awards. Cochran, daughter of Terry and Jennifer Cochran of Cottonwood, graduated from Prairie High School in 2011 and from LCSC in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. She is engaged to be married to Chanse Shuffield. She was hired as a volunteer officer for the Cottonwood Police Department in November 2014 and is the CPD’s Drug and Alcohol Trends Education (D.A.T.E.) training officer. Her high school senior project was on D.A.T.E. in 2011 and since then she has developed and improved the program and has done presentations across Idaho Region 2. She is currently the only drug trends instructor in the region and one of only 2 in the state. She was also the first Drug Trends Educator to design and utilize a portable ‘mock room’ trailer. She worked for St. Mary’s Hospital Ambulance from 2009-2014 and became an EMT at age 16. She still maintains here Idaho as well as National EMT certifications and volunteers with Riggins EMS. While she was in high school and working as an EMT she was allowed to use an ear bud with her pager when she was on call so that the tones would not interrupt her class. She volunteered with the CPD, and also with the Cottonwood Fire Department from 2010 until 2012 when she moved to Lewiston for college. While in Lewiston she worked as an intern for the Lewiston Police Department while attending college. She was the first student that LPD had as an intern, initiating a program to establish a reserve force for LPD. She joined the Wheatland Fire Department near Lewiston in 2012 and still volunteers there. She was also hire by the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office in July 2015 where she is still employed as a Senior Detention Deputy. She has received several other awards over the past 8 years. They include: Firefighter of the Year, Wheatland Fire Dept., 2012. Rookie Class Award, Wheatland Fire Dept., 2012. Certificate of Appreciation, Wheatland Fire Dept., 2013 City Achievement Award/Public Safety, Idaho Association of Cities, 2016 Certificate of Appreciation, City of Cottonwood, 2018 Best Law Enforcement Officer in Idaho County (public vote from Idaho County Free Press), 2018 Community Leadership Award, Northwest Alcohol Conference, 2018 Prevention Educator of the Year, Upriver Youth Leadership Council, 2018. |
