Lady Pirates win twice
The Prairie Lady Pirates picked up a pair of home non-league wins this past week. On Tuesday, Jan. 21, they beat Orofino 63-18 at Cottonwood. On Wednesday, Jan. 22, they made up a weather postponed game against the Lewiston JV and won 70-29 at Cottonwood.
Vs. Orofino
Prairie jumped out to a 17-2 lead against Orofino by the end of the first quarter. Madison Shears scored the first 4 points of the game and India Peery added a free throw to make it 5-0.Kristin Wemhoff comes up with a steal against Orofino as Madison Shears watches.
After an Orofino basket, Peery hit a 3-pointer. Ellea Uhlenkott scored a pair of baskets and Chaffee finished off the quarter with a 3-pointer and a basket. 
Chaffee also dominated on the defensive end as she blocked 4 of Orofino’s 10 shot attempts in the quarter.
She blocked 2 more shots in the second quarter as Prairie rolled to a 37-10 lead by halftime. Prairie spread their 20 points around in the quarter as 8 different players scored. Shears and Hope Schwartz each had a 3-pointer while Uhlenkott was the only player to score more than one basket as she had 4 points. Delanie Lockett, Peery, Kristin Wemhoff and Josie Remacle each had a basket while Chaffee and Shears each hit a free throw.
In the third quarter Prairie outscored the Maniacs 20-2 as Orofino was only able to get a shot off 4 times due to 15 turnovers.
Peery scored 8 in the quarter with a pair of 3-pointsers and Chaffee added 6 points on 3 baskets. Lockett had a 3-pointer and a free throw and Uhlenkott had a basket.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock and the scoring wound up even at 6-6 with Remacle scoring 4 of Prairie 6 points and Uhlenkott the other 2.
Peery wound up as the leading scorer with 14 points with Uhlenkott and Chaffee each adding 12. Shears scored 8 with Lockett and Remacle scoring 6 each. Schwartz scored 3 and Wemhoff 2.
Orofino had the rebounding advantage 27-38 with Uhlenkott leading Prairie with 8 rebounds.
The rebounding disadvantage was more than made up by the turnover differential as Orofino had 36 turnovers while Prairie had just 8.
Shears had 7 steals while Chaffee had 6 and Peery and Lockett 4 each. Lockett had 5 assists.
Prairie was 25 for 59 from the field, 42%, and 6 for 12 at the line, 50%. Orofino was 8 for 33 from the field, 24%, and 2 for 5 at the line, 40%.
There was no JV game as Orofino had just 6 players available.

Vs. Lewiston JV
After a relatively close first quarter Prairie blew open the game against the Lewiston JV in the second quarter.
Prairie jumped out to a 6-0 lead as Chaffee and Lockett each scored a basket and Shears added 2 free throws.
After a Lewiston basket, Lockett connected from 3-point range to make it 9-2. Lewiston was able to get back within 5 3 different times, including with a 3 pointer in the final minute which made it 13-8 at the quarter break.
The second quarter was dominated by the Pirates as they stepped up the defense, forcing 14 turnovers. Most of those were converted into points as Prairie scored the first 25 points of the quarter and outscored Lewiston 31-1 to take a 44-9 halftime lead.
Shears scored 14 points in the quarter including a personal 8-0 run that turned an 18-8 lead into a 26-8 lead. Chaffee then hit a 3 to make it 29-8 and followed with a 2-point basket. A basket by Shears, a free throw by Wemhoff, another basket by Shears and a basket by Wemhoff made it 38-8.
Lewiston then scored their only point to the quarter. That was followed by a 3 by Peery and a basket and a free throw by Uhlenkott that closed out the half.

Lewiston then rallied with 9 straight points before Sydnee Bruegeman closed out the quarter with a lay-up at the buzzer to make it 62-20.
Lewiston actually outscored Prairie 8-9 in the running clock fourth quarter.
Prairie had 4 players in double figures in the game led by Shears who had 17 points. Wemhoff scored 12 while Lockett and Uhlenkott each scored 11. Chaffee scored 8, Peery 6 and Bruegeman, Remacle and Schwartz each scored 2. Tara Schlader missed her second straight game due to a foot injury suffered in the Genesee game Monday, Jan. 20.
Uhlenkott had a double-double as she had 12 rebounds to lead Prairie to a 37-29 advantage on the boards. 
Chaffee had 5 steals while Lockett had 4 and Peery and Shears 3 each. Peery had 4 assists while Uhlenkott had 3.
Prairie was 25 for 56 from the field, 45%, and 17 for 29 at the line, 59%. Lewiston was 12 for 38 from the field, 32%, and 3 for 12 at the line, 25%.
Prairie is now 13-3 on the season and 7-2 in league play.
The JV team played the Sacajawea 9th graders and won 45-38.
Laney Forsmann got off to a strong start with 8 first quarter points to lead Prairie to a 17-6 lead. 
Sacajawea scored first but that was the only lead they had in the game. Forsmann answered with a shot from the elbow to tie it and Molly Johnson scored a lay-up to put Prairie into the lead for good. A basket by Olivia Klapprich and putback by Forsmann made it 8-2.
Ali Rehder converted a 3-point play and Forsmann added 2 more baskets and then picked up an assist on a basket by Hope Schwartz that closed out the quarter.
Prairie scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to take a 27-6 lead. Klapprich opened the quarter with a basket then Forsmann scored after making a steal. Johnson scored inside then Rehder hit a 3 and followed with a 2-pointer. 
Sacajawea’s only basket came just before the halftime buzzer to make it 27-8.
Each team scored 10 points in the third quarter with Forsmann the only one to score more than 2 for Prairie with 4 points. Johnson, Schwartz and Riley Enneking each added 2 points as Prairie took a 37-18 lead into the fourth quarter.
Sacajawea outscored Prairie in the fourth but only by 2 points 8-10. Johnson added 4 points in the quarter while Forsmann and Enneking added 2 each.
Forsmann led the scoring with 16 points. Johnson scored 9 with Rehder adding 8. Klapprich, Schwartz and Enneking scored 4 points each.
Prairie dominated the boards 38-23. Forsmann and Johnson had 9 rebounds each with Klapprich adding 7.
Johnson had 4 steals and Forsmann had 7 assists as she had a hand in 30 points for the Pirates.
The JV’s were 20 for 46 from the field, 43%, and 4 for 15 at the line, 27%. Sacajawea was 9 for 36 from the field, 25%, and 8 for 16 at the line, 50%.
