Pirates finish regular season with 3 wins
The Prairie Lady Pirates finished the regular season with 3 league wins. On Tuesday, Jan. 28 they traveled to Troy where they won 58-31. On Thursday, Jan. 30 they hosted Clearwater Valley and won 88-31. Finally on Saturday, Feb. 1 they hosted Potlatch on Senior Night and won 71-9. Ciara Chaffee posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Prairie took an 11-3 lead by the end of the first quarter and upped the lead to 17 by halftime, 30-13. The third quarter saw Prairie outscore Troy just 10-9 as they took a 40-22 lead into the fourth quarter. Prairie then outscored Prairie 18-9 in the fourth quarter to win by 27. Delanie Lockett, Kristin Wemhoff and Ellea Uhlenkott each added 6 points while Tara Schlader, back from a foot injury, and Josie Remacle each scored 2 points. There was no JV game played as Troy doesn’t have enough players for a JV squad. They raced out to a 25-13 lead after one quarter and led 46-19 at the half. They outscored C.V. 23-5 in the third quarter to take a 69-24 lead into the fourth quarter. Even with a running clock they added another 19 points in the fourth. Madison Shears, who missed the game at Troy, led the Pirates with 20 points and 5 steals. Peery added 17 points and 8 assists. Wemhoff scored 16 and Uhlenkott 11 as Prairie had 4 players in double figures. Lockett scored 8, Chaffee and Hope Schwartz 5 each and Remacle, Schlader and Sydnee Bruegeman scored 2 each. Also getting some varsity action was Molly Johnson. The Prairie JV team played the Jenifer Jr. High 9th grade and won 49-15. Prairie jumped out to a 10-0 lead with Uhlenkott scoring 6 of those 10 points. Shears and Chaffee added 2 each. Potlatch got on the board with a 3-pointer and then added a 2 point to cut the lead in half, 10-5. Peery’s first points came on a 3 pointer that kicked off a 15-0 run by the Lady Pirates. Prairie wound up the first quarter with a 27-7 lead. Potlatch managed to scored just 2 points over the final 3 quarters and those didn’t come until midway through the second quarter as Prairie outscored Potlatch 27-0 in the second quarter to take a 54-7 halftime lead. Uhlenkott had 14 first half points while Shears had 10. Down 47 at the half the Potlatch coach ran up the white flag and it was agreed the entire second half would be played with a running clock. Prairie outscored the Loggers 13-2 in the third quarter and 4-0 in the fourth. Uhlenkott led the scoring with 14 points with Lockett adding 11 and Shears 10. Peery, Chaffee and Wemhoff each scored 8. Bruegeman scored 6 and Schlader, Remacle and Johnson each scored 2. Prairie dominated on the boards, 42-14. Lockett had 7 to lead the Pirates with Uhlenkott and Chaffee adding 6 each. Chaffee had 6 steals and 5 assists. Shears had 4 steals and 9 different players had at least 1. Prairie was 27 for 58 from the field, 47%, and 13 for 15 at the line, 87%. Potlatch was 4 for 29 from the field, 14%, and 0 for 2 at the line. Prairie ends their regular season with a 10-2 league record good for second place and a 16-3 record overall. The Jv girls ended their season with a 56-30 win over the Loggers. Potlatch actually led the game at 2-4 but a 13-0 run gave Prairie a 15-4 lead and they never looked back. Laney Forsmann was a big part of that run with 7 points and 2 assists. Prairie led 20-9 at the quarter break. Josie Remacle scored 6 in the second quarter as Prairie built their lead to 31-13 on their way to a 33-20 halftime lead. Forsmann had 6 and Hope Schwartz 5 in the third quarter as Prairie built their lead to 51-26 by the end of the third period. A 5-0 run to start the fourth invoked the running clock and Potlatch scored the game’s final 4 points after that. Forsmann wound up with 16 points to lead the team with Remacle adding 12. Schwartz scored 9. Trinity Martinez, who made her season debut against the Jenifer 9th grade after battling back from a broken ankle during volleyball season, scored 8. Molly Johnson scored 7 and Ali Rehder scored 4. Prairie held a 43-26 edge on the boards and were led by Johnson who had 13 rebounds. Forsmann and Schwartz each had 4 steals while Olivia Klapprich, Johnson, Rehder and Riley Enneking added 3 each. Forsmann had 4 assists to lead the team. The JV’s were 22 for 58 from the field, 38%, and 10 for 24 at the line, 42%. Potlatch was 13 for 35 from the field, 37%, and 4 for 9 at the line, 44%.
