Pirates lose 2 of 3 at District
The Prairie Pirates had their season come to an end Monday, Feb. 24 at the hands of Kamiah at the District Tournament at the LCSC Activity Center. On Tuesday, Feb. 18 they held off Genesee for a 52-45 win. On Wednesday, Feb. 19 they lost to Lapwai 35-58 in a game that clinched a trip to State for the Wildcats. On Monday, Feb. 24 they lost to Kamiah 59-65 to end their season. . . .

Lady Pirates take 2nd at State
The Prairie Lady Pirates took second at State for the fifth time in the past 6 years with 4 of those championship game losses coming to Lapwai.
Prairie opened the tournament against District 4 champion Raft River and pulled out a 45-35 win on Thursday, Feb. 20 at Columbia High School in Nampa. On Friday, Feb. 21, also at Columbia High School, they rallied from as many as 7 points down to beat District 5-6 champion Grace 47-42. Finally on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Idaho Center, they lost to Lapwai 40-46 to place 2nd at State. . . .

The Cottonwood School District  Spelling Bee was held Wednesday February 19 at Prairie Elementary.  Twelve contestants from grades 3-8 participated for a chance to be named the winner. Matthew Jones spelled Tabasco to win the final round.  Jack Crull took second place.

Every year at the state tournament prior to each team’s first game, one person for each team is designated to receive the Sportsmanship T-shirt. This year Prairie coach Lori Mader nominated Chronicle editor Greg Wherry for the award.
