Melina Palken To the Editor. I don’t get it? Defund the police? If I were to advocate cutting the police wages in half and then my car was stolen, I would want the police to find the thief and get my car back. But why would the police, on half pay, give that more than a half effort? Pat Gehring Cottonwood Redneck Review! No. 267 - 6/8/2020 Recently the discussion in these RNR's has centered around knowing the past in order to understand the present, and have a peak at the future. Way back in 1651, Thomas Hobbes in his book LEVIATHAN, discussing this same issue, made the statement: "A kingdom divided in itself cannot stand." Last week our discussion centered on some facts of history, not to be denied, though of course, often ignored! On the one side was the reminder of the "Law of Love" of God and of neighbor associated with the God-man Jesus Christ, and the indisputable appearance of HIS earthly mother the Blessed Virgin Mary who appeared over a six month period from May to October, 1917, on the 13th of each month. It ended with the promised "Miracle of the Sun" which was witnessed by thousands and reported by newspapers as far away as 50 miles. The facts of these events CANNOT be denied, though readily ignored by doubters. The third fact of history is the rise to power of atheistic Communism, also in 1917, which is the beginning of the growing atheistic philosophy of Karl Marx, Lenin and Stalin. This event was not only commented upon by the Virgin Mary at Fatima, but at the time she also warned that Russia would spread the errors of communism throughout the world in the decades to come, unless the human race would act to prevent it. It is easily proved by research that this relatively new force in history is growing in the world today, promoting as intermediary steps socialism and secularism. And an integral part of this movement is the total destruction of Christianity and all religions which teach love and consideration of neighbor. Again, it must be admitted that this historical fact may not be denied, BUT IS CERTAINLY IGNORED! So back to Hobbes statement at the beginning! It was asked last RNR "Which philosophy is rampant in America today?" And does a review of what is going on in our country and in the world suggest that their is a serious and maybe DESTRUCTIVE division noted there? Is it possible to determine which side is most often associated with the press, with government officials, with political parties? Is it something that could seriously impact our future, and the survival of the United States, say nothing of other countries around the world? I guess it should simply be asked, is there a serious and destructive division in our country today, and is it recognized by the average American? Last week's article closed with three comments made by prominent leaders of Communism. Following are a few more that research discloses which help to understand the issues today. 1)"Communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality."(Communist Manifesto). 2)"We must combat religion. This is the ABC of materialism, and consequently of Marxism. Down with religion, Long live atheism." (Lenin). 3)"The Catholic Church, with the Pope in its van, is an important bulwark of all counter-revolutionary forces." (Yaroslavsky). 4)"Marxists have never forgotten that violence will be an inevitable accompaniment of the collapse of capitalism..." (Lenin). 5)"'We cannot expect Americans to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of Socialism, until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism." (Kushchev before a U.S.visit in 1959). 6)"We Communists do not distinguish between good and bad religions because we think they all are bad." (Earl Browder - Communist Party, U.S.A.). 7)"We must make our our school boys and girls not merely non-religious, but actively and passionately anti-religious." (Lenin's wife, Madam Krupskaya).. Hmmm! Any threat to our way of life? Is there really a serious and potentially destructive division in our own country today? Was Hobbes correct is claiming such a divided country "cannot stand?"
