Cottonwood City Council adopts tentative budget
The Cottonwood City Council approved the tentative budget for fiscal year 2021 at their July meeting, Monday, July 13.
Included is a $2 increase per month in the base water rate and a 6 cent increase per month in the basic sanitation rate. The tentative budget appears on page 7.
Amy Uptmor of JUB Engineering was present to talk about upcoming contracts on the wastewater project. She will get together with Councilor Don Munkers, Mayor Pepper Harman and city attorney Joe Wright by phone conference on Thursday, July 16, to discuss some issues in the Waste Water Facility Plan Engineering Contract and in the General Engineering Contract. Contracts with the National Resources Conservation Service have to be approved at the federal level first before coming back to the council for their approval. Depending on the timeline, the council may schedule a special meeting to approve these.
Clint Riener decided not to pursue the purchase of the city’s Oak Street parcel. It would have had to go through a bidding process. Neighborhood children currently use that as a play area and the mowing, etc. is taken care of by the city.
A request by Eric Forsmann to set up an antique tractor display in the city park during the Fair was approved. Apparently the Fair Board felt they wouldn’t have space available for it on the fairgrounds so he came to the city.
A generator grant was discussed and it was decided the cost was too prohibitive for the expected use. The city would’ve been on the hook for an estimated $14,000-18,000 for their part of the match.
In the reports Pat Holthaus reported they had about 20% water loss in May and about 16% in June. They pumped 3.2 million gallons of water in May and 2.5 million gallons in June.
Ben Schumacher reported the School Street project continues starting July 14 with the hard surfacing work. Some chip sealing is coming up later in the summer.
Schumacher reported the airport resurfacing work appears to have been pushed back to September. Once that is done they hope to get the striping company in. He said there are also inspectors coming in soon to inspect the airport.
Linda Nida reported the Fire Dept. had just 1 call in the past month, an extrication on July 2.
The meeting adjourned at 8:33 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, August 10 at 7 p.m. with the budget hearing set for Monday, August 3 at 7 p.m.
