Martin named SI All-American candidate
Prairie High School football player Cole Martin has been named a Sports Illustrated All-American candidate as announced by the magazine on July 14. The soon-to-be senior is one of 1000 players nationwide to make SI’s watch list. The 6’1”, 190-lb. running back/defensive back was named the 1A-D1 player of the year for the 2019 season as he rushed for1600 yards at a clip of 10.9 yards per carry to lead the Pirates to an undefeated season and the 2019 state championship in their division. He scored 32 touchdowns in 11 games. 23 were on running plays with 4 more on passing plays for 27 offensive touchdowns. He added 3 touchdowns on interception returns and 1 on a fumble return defensively. He also had a kickoff return for a touchdown. SI will narrow the list down in 250 in October and then announce a first team of 25, a second team of 25 and an honorable mention group in December. The first team selections will be invited to the SI Sportsperson of the Year banquet.
