4 vie for 2021 Fair Royalty There are four young ladies competing this year for the 2021 Idaho County Fair Royalty. New competitors this year are Leann Lightfield and Olivia Klapprich, both of Cottonwood. Competitors from last year who are giving it another try this year are Dani Sonnen of Greencreek and Kaylee Doughty of Grangeville. Judging will take place at the Royalty Candidate’s Luncheon set for Wednesday, August 5 at Church of the Nazarene in Grangeville. Winners will be announced on Friday, August 21 at the Idaho County Fair. Leann Lightfield At school she is involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA), Cross Country, Track, Knowledge Bowl and Business Professionals of America (BPA). Her past fair involvements includes 3 years of horse projects, 1 year of rabbit projects, 2 years of swine projects and several open class entries. She works at The Hangout and Keuterville Pub & Grub each week and also works for Cottonwood Butte Ski Area and Cottonwood Livestock Auction. Her hobbies include running, reading, writing, sewing and riding horses. After high school she plans to attend the University of Idaho and earn a Bachelor’s Degree in fitness and nutrition with an eye toward becoming a nutritionist. Three life goals are to: 1) run a marathon; 2) give back to the community, especially youth organizations; 3) help people live healthier lives. She feels her strongest personal quality is her work ethic that comes from helping her dad on the farm. She is not afraid of hard work or long hours. Most important in her life is her family and friends. She loves them and they have always supported here and helped her to be the best person she can be. Her dad is a farmer and her mom works for Advanced Welding and Steel. Her stepmom works at St. John Hardware. She has a stepsister her age and a younger brother named John. She has lived in Idaho County all her life. Olivia Klapprich Youth organizations and activities she is involved in include Church youth group; basketball, Prairie League, Track, 4-H Club, volleyball, Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA), and the Idaho County Fair Fashion Board. Past Fair involvement includes 9 years of sewing projects; Open Class art, 9 years of Making the Most of Me, 2 years of Rabbit projects; 4 years of Table Setting/Demonstration Contest, 2 years of survival projects, 2 years of Leadership; 5 years of sheep projects and 4 years of Steer projects. Employment includes yardwork for JoAnn McHugh and Karen Gehring, babysitting for Molly Nuxoll and working for Klapprich Ranch. Community involvement includes helping with the Holy Cross Parish Dinner and with the Cottonwood Easter Egg Hunt. Hobbies include volleyball, hunting, fishing, basketball, running and drawing. After high school she plans to attend the University of Idaho to get a Bachelor’s Degree in architecture. Three life goals are: 1) graduate high school with good grades; 2) become an architect; 3) get married and have a family. She feels her strongest personal quality is her determination and perseverance. The most important thing in her life is here faith and family. She is the second oldest of six children of Heath and Tara Klapprich. Her dad owns his own business repairing farm equipment and trucks. Her mom does the bookkeeping. They also live on a small ranch and raise cattle. Her older sibling is Halle, age 17, who is the current Fair Queen. Younger siblings are Miranda, 14; Dylan, 12; Ava, 8 and Ruby, 5. Her parents moved back to Cottonwood when she was 4 months old and has lived in Idaho County ever since. Dani Sonnen Organizations and activities she is a part of are volleyball, basketball, student government, Knowledge Bowl and drama at school. She is a 9 year member of the Greencreek Active Workers 4-H Club. She has also 40+ apostolic hours including visiting hospitals and organizing retreats for young girls. Her past Fair involvement includes 9 years of 4-H where she had various market animal projects and Making the Most of Me. She is currently in her second year on the 4-H Fashion Board and is an Idaho County 4-H Ambassador. For work she has provided child care for various families, wrapped meat at Sonnen Meats, worked cows on the family ranch and assisted her grandparents with landscaping. Her hobbies include riding horses, playing sports, scrapbooking, painting, decorating, meeting new people and spending quality time with family and friends. After high school she plans to attend college to study business and interior design. Three life goals include: 1) live out my Catholic faith everyday; 2) use her creativity to inspire people to be the best they can be; and 3) get married someday and start a family. She feels her strongest personal trait is her leadership. “In a way I am like fertilizer. I help others around me grow together and work as a team. I have the ability to combine various ideas into one so that everyone feels included and their ideas can bloom.” She feels a good leader brings out the best in others by encouragement and actions. The most important thing in her life is her family. They are always there to support, encourage and celebrate with her. She values all of their family time and spending time with her siblings. She is the second oldest of six children of Norm and Julie Sonnen. Her parents own a meat business and also have a ranch. Her older sister is Jessie. Her younger siblings are Rachel, Will, Tessa and MacKenzie. She has lived in Idaho County her entire life. Kaylee Doughty She is involved in FFA, BPA, 4-H, Softball and cheerleading. In past Fairs she has entered quilts and had cardmaking and ceramics projects in 4-H when she was younger.. She works at Your Best Friends Quilt Shop at Grangeville. She enjoys sewing, quilting, machine embroidery and riding her horse. After high school she plans to go to LCSC for criminal justice studies to become a probation officer. Her 3 life goals are to 1) graduate from college, 2) get her dream job and 3) live her life to the greatest she can. She feels her strongest personal quality is that she is outgoing. She is not scared to talk to different people when meeting them for the first time. Her family is the most important thing in her life. Without all their support and encouragement she would be the person she is today. Her mother Christina owns her quilt shop called Your Best Friends Quilt Shop. Her father Ken owns Ken’s Heating and Cooling. Her brother works with her dad while getting his certification for HVAC. She has lived in Idaho County her entire life. |
