Lady Pirates win 2 of 3 matches
PIRATES GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The Prairie Lady Pirates won 2 of their 3 league matches this past week. On Tuesday, Sept. 29 they traveled to Troy and lost in 5 games, 20-25, 25-14, 14-25, 12-25. On Thursday, Oct. 1 they traveled to Kooskia for 2 league matches against Clearwater Valley and swept both matches. They won the first 25-20, 25-12, 25-11 and the second 25-22, 25-21, 25-16. At Troy
In the match at Troy it was the first
time the perennial powerhouse Trojans didn’t sweep the Pirates since
2017 when Prairie took Troy to 5 games in a loss at the District
Tournament.Prairie kept it close in the first game but their only lead came at 1-0 when Laney Forsmann scored on a block. Prairie was tied with Troy at 1, 2, 4 and 5 and then fell behind for good. They got back within 1 at 10-11 on a kill by Hope Schwartz and again at 11-12 when Tara Schlader scored on a tip. Troy pushed the lead to 6 but Prairie fought back within 2 at 16-18 as Schlader served 3 straight aces. Troy though held on to win by 5. Prairie never trailed in the second game. Forsmann scored a kill to open the game. That was followed by 4 straight sideouts with Prairie taking the lead for good on a missed Troy serve that made it 3-2. Sierra McWilliams then served 2 aces and Madison Shears added a kill for a 6-2 lead. Prairie kept the lead at about 3-6 points until Schlader scored on a tip to send herself to the service line at 16-10. She then served 4 straight points for a 20-10 lead. She had an ace while Ellea Uhlenkott, Jade Prigge and Shears each added a kill. Troy got back within 7 at 20-13 before missing a serve. A kill by Uhlenkott made it 22-13. After a sideout, Delanie Lockett scored a sideout kill and Uhlenkott then served out the game as Schlader and Forsmann each added a kill. In the third game Prairie held a 2-1 lead after a kill by Shears but then Troy took control. Prairie managed to stay close though until at 9-11 Troy scored a sideout then served for 6 straight points to take a 9-18 lead. They wound up winning by 11. In the fourth game Prairie led 1-0 on a back row kill by McWilliams but Troy then scored 9 of the next 10 points and never looked back. They built the lead to 3-15 and then held on to win by 13. Schlader had 13 kills in the game plus 18 assists and 7 aces. Uhlenkott had 8 kills, which included 2 blocks plus 2 aces. Shears had 8 kills and 3 assists. Forsmann had 7 kills including a pair of blocks. Lockett had 4 kills and 2 assists. Prigge had 4 kills. Schwartz had 2 kills and 19 assists. McWilliams had 2 kills and 5 aces. Prairie lost the JV match 25-19, 22-25, 14-16. Prairie fell behind early in the opening fame with Mackenzie Key serving them into the lead. Kristin Wemhoff scored a sideout kill that made it 8-10 and Key then served the next 4 points. She had 2 aces with Wemhoff and Julia Rehder each adding a kill. Prairie stayed on top until Troy put together a 4 point run to take a 17-18 lead. Prairie tied it and took a 19-18 lead on a kill by Key. Troy tied it but Laney Forsmann scored a sideout kill sending Olivia Klapprich to the service line. Ali Rehder scored a kill and Klapprich followed with 3 straight aces. Julia Rehder then scored the game-winning kill. The second game saw Troy jump out to a 0-8 lead. Prairie came back to tie it at 9-9 with Taylor Riener serving most of those points. She had 2 aces while Riley Enneking scored 3 kills and Wemhoff and Julia Rehder added one each. Troy scored a sideout to retake the lead and Prairie never again had the lead in the game. Prairie fell behind by as many as 5 points but came back to get within 1 at 22-23 before a net violation gave Troy a sideout and the Trojans then got the game-winning kill. Prairie fell behind 2-6 in the third game then came back with Julia Rehder serving to take an 8-6 lead. She had 4 aces and Alli Geis added a kill. Prairie took a 13-9 lead on a kill by Riener but then Troy mounted a comeback. Troy scored 5 straight points to get to match point. Julia Rehder scored a kill to tie it at 14 but Troy then scored the next 2 points to take the match. The C team lost their match 26-28, 10-25, 15-6. At CV
Prairie played a pair of league matches at C.V., sweeping both.The first match saw C.V. keep it close in the first game but Prairie rolled to big wins in the next two games. Shears had 10 kills in the match and was 20 for 20 serving. Schlader was 16 for 16 serving in the match. In the second match C.V. kept it close in both of the first two games with Prairie winning by 9 in the third game. Schlader had 16 assists in the match. Prairie is now 7-5 overall and 5-5 in league play. The JV team also swept their match 25-23, 25-16 and 15-6. Madison Shears overheads the ball over the net to keep a rally going.
