Gym protocols discussed at school board meeting Gym protocols, now that Idaho has been moved back to Stage 2 in the Idaho Rebounds plan, were discussed at the November meeting of the school board held Monday, Nov. 16. Principal Jon Rehder said with the teams and essential personnel like stats, bookkeeper, video person being exempt from the 10 people allowed at gatherings, that he is pushing for 1 person per varsity player to be able to attend. Any heckling of the referees or opposing teams would cause that person to lose the privilege to attend. Those attending would be confined to the balcony area and have assigned seating for social distancing purposes. Masks would also be required to attend. There would be no concessions available. He was to seek cooperation on this from other schools in the league as it is possible they could refuse to send their teams if they know Prairie has people in the stands. Any attendance at away games would be up to the hosting school’s protocols. It is unlikely visiting fans would be allowed. As an alternative to in-game attendance, all Prairie games will be broadcast online either on Facebook Live or over NFHSnetwork.com. See related story on links for the first few games. Rehder said all the schools will be installing Pixellot cameras for NFHS broadcasts by the first of the year, including Prairie, which has already ordered 2 cameras. One will be at the high school gym and the other at the football field. Cost for the 2 cameras is $2500. This is a 1 time charge good for a 5-year lease. When asked about the loss of revenue of no fans or concessions and how are the referees going to be paid, superintendent Rene’ Forsmann said they could use some of the Covid money as this is definitely something affected by the virus. In other business the board approved calling for bids for a new school bus. They decided to go with one that has the underneath and behind the back seats storage. It would be a new activity bus with the older of the two current activity buses continuing to be used on the Ferdinand route. Donna Latimer was approved for hire as a paraprofessional at the Jr./Sr. High School. The board approved another updated section of the District Policies. In the facilities report, Forsmann reported the new board room is complete. They have set up the new board room in one of the classrooms at the Auxiliary Gym. They are also in the process of adding 4 new door security locks, 2 each at the Elementary and the Jr./Sr. High School. In her Elementary Principal report, Forsmann said the winter concert is set for Dec. 21 and they are looking at doing it either on Facebook Live or YouTube Live. In her superintendent’s report she said they sent out the Covid stipends discusses at the last meeting. They received a lot of thank yous from staff for those. Rehder reported they had no Veterans Day assembly this year due to Covid concerns. Instead the English classes wrote notes to the veterans thanking them for their service and mailed them. Rick Johnson was able to provide addresses of 108 local veterans. There is no Idaho County Shootout this year due to the Covid restrictions. Instead the school is having a canned food drive and competition among the classes. The drive ends Dec. 4. There are 20 girls out for high school basketball with their first game having been at Cottonwood this past Tuesday. Rehder didn’t have numbers yet for boys basketball as the football players planning to play basketball won’t be at practice until Wednesday. It’s looking like possibly 23 to 25 players based on who is out and who played last year. The printer room is in full swing and Evan Schwartz and Wade Goeckner are doing great things with Mr. Hasselstrom. They have done various jobs for local business and are working on a possible website to offer personalized items. Volleyball and Cross Country held their awards nights. Football will hold off for now due to the 10-person limit on gatherings. Knowledge Bowl will be virtual this year. Meets will be on Nov. 30, Jan. 25, Feb. 8, March 15 and April 19. Before adjourning the meeting, board chairman Aaron Hinkelman read the submission the board sent in advocating Denise Uhlenkott for board clerk of the year. The meeting adjourned at 7:54 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. |
