Lady Pirates are 1-1 on the week
The Prairie Lady Pirates suffered a tough home loss to Lapwai, 53-62 after leading with 3:30 to play on Thursday, Dec. 10. They bounced back to give win at Genesee 50-35, giving them their first loss of the season.
Vs. Lapwai
Lapwai jumped out to a 0-5 lead in the game and led nearly the entire first half.
Two free throws by Madison Shears and a putback by Delanie Lockett cut the lead to 4-5 but Lapwai then went on a 2-6 run to take a 6-11 lead.
A free throw by Shears and a putback by Hope Schwartz on the missed second free throw but the lead to 9-11. However, Lapwai finished the quarter with a 0-5 run for a 9-16 lead.
They made it a 10-point lead with a 3 to open the second quarter. A putback by Schwrtz and 2 free throws by Shears with Prairie already in the double bonus with 5:08 left cut the lead to 13-19.
Another quick 5 points by Lapwai was answered by a 7-0 run by Prairie. Schwartz hit a 3 and Tara Schlader and Lockett each scored inside to cut the lead to 20-24 with 3:30 left.
Lapwai answered with a pair of baskets but Prairie then went on a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 29-28 with 12 seconds left. Shears started it with a pair of free throws. Schlader scored a putback and Kristin Wemhoff followed with a 3-pointer. Lockett then tied the game and put Prairie ahead with 2 free throws. A basket by Lapwai with 2 second left game them a 29-30 halftime lead.
Lapwai scored to open the second half but Schlader answered to cut the lead to 1. After a Lapwai free throw, Shears drove to the hoop to tie the game at 33.
Lapwai answered with a basket but a basket each by Lockett and Wemhoff and a free throw by Schlader gave Prairie a 38-35 lead with 2:45 left in the third.
It took Lapwai just 17 seconds to tie the game with a 3-pointer. A free throw and a basket gave them a 38-41 lead but a 3 by Schwartz with 1:26 left in the third quarter tied the score at 41. Neither team scored the rest of the quarter.
Prairie took a 1-point lead on a free throw by Schlader but Lapwai took back the lead with a basket.
Two putbacks by Ellea Uhlenkott put Prairie back on top 46-43.
A Lapwai basket was answered by two free throws by Uhlenkott.
After another Lapwai basket, Schlader made the second of 2 free throws for a 49-47 lead with 3:30 left.
Lapwai answered with a 0-8 run to take the lead for good as Prairie was held scoreless until the 1:42 mark when Schlader made a basket. Lapwai then went on a 0-7 run to put the game away.
Wemhoff scored to break that run and get the final margin under 10 at 53-62.
Schlader led the Pirates in scoring with 13 points and added 11 rebounds and 6 steals.
Schwartz scored 10 points which included two 3-pointers. Shears scored 9 points with Lockett scoring 8 with 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Wemhoff scored 7 with 7 rebounds and 6 steals. Uhlenkott scored 6 points.
Prairie had a 41-30 edge on the boards.
Prairie was 18 for 50 from the field, 36%, and 14 for 27 at the line, 52%. Lapwai was 23 for 48 from the field, 48%, and 10 for 18 at the line, 56%.
Lapwai also won the JV game 53-58 in a game that wasn’t really as close as the final score would indicate.
Lapwai led by as many as 11 in the first quarter and led 10-19 at the end of the period. Jade Prigge and Riley Enneking each scored 4 in the quarter for Prairie.
The scoring was even at 9-9 in the second quarter with Prairie three times getting within 7 at 12-19, 14-21 and 18-25. Ali Rehder scored 3 for Prairie in the quarter with Klapprich, Isabella Walsh and Alli Geis each scoring 2.
In the third quarter Prairie again managed to get within 7 a couple times but no closer.
Lapwai led 36-48 heading into the fourth quarter. Rehder scored 9 of Prairie’s 17 third quarter points. Klapprich, Enneking, Prigge and Sarah Lustig each scored a basket.
In the fourth quarter Prairie trailed by 13 with 2:30 to play and then managed to finish the game on an 8-0 run and cut the final margin to 5 points.
Walsh started the finishing run with a lay-up and Rehder followed with a 3 and then 20 seconds later, a free throw. Rehder then scored the final points of the game with 20 seconds left on a putback.
Rehder wound up with 18 points to lead Prairie in scoring. Prigge and Walsh scored 9 each with Klapprich and Enneking adding 6 each. Geis and Lustig scored 2 each and Gracie Farr scored 1.
Lapwai had a 35-40 rebounding edge. Klapprich, Enneking and Walsh each had 6 for the Pirates.
Rehder had 8 steals and Walsh had 3 assists.
The JV’s were 22 for 61 from the field, 36%, and 6 for 13 at the line, 46%. Lapwai was 26 for 55 from the field, 47%, and 4 for 16 at the line, 25%.

At Genesee
After suffering their first loss of the season, Prairie bounced back with a 15-point win at Genesee.
Prairie jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game on a basket each by Wemhoff and Uhlenkott and then a 3 by Wemhoff. Madison Shears drives along the baseline at Genesee. She wound up scoring a lay-up on the play.
Genesee was able to pull back within 3 at 9-6 but Prairie ended the opening quarter with a 7-0 run.
Shears scored from the baseline. Schlader scored a lay-up on a feed from Uhlenkott and then Lockett hit a 3 with an assist from Uhlenkott to make it 16-6.
Uhlenkott opened the second quarter scoring for an 18-6 lead but Genesee came back to pull within 5 at 19-14 as Bailey Leseman and Isabelle Monk each scored a 3-pointer.
A lay-up by Molly Johnson was answered by a lay-up by Leseman to make it 21-16 with 2:22 left in the half.
With 1 minute to play Shears sank a 3-pointer and then stole the ball which led to a basket by Schlader which gave Prairie a 26-16 lead at the half.
A 2-7 run by Genesee to start the third again got the Bulldogs within 5 points but Shears drove the baseline for a lay-up and then hit a 3-pointer to push the lead back to 10 at 33-23.
Prairie led 36-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
Genesee scored after a Prairie turnover but the Pirates answered with a basket by Uhlenkott. Wemhoff, who missed her first 5 free throw attempts, sank the second of a pair and then a minute later sank both ends of a 1 and 1 for a 41-29 lead.
Two Genesee free throws were answered by a putback by Shears.
A Genesee basket was answered by a free throw by Shears.
Monk made a pair of free throws for Genesee with 1:54 left to cut the lead to 44-35 but that was the last points that Genesee scored.
Lockett sank both free throws of a double bonus then Wemhoff sank 4 straight free throws to close out the scoring. Wemhoff made her final 7 free throws attempts after missing her first 5.
Wemhoff had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Shears also scored 14 points and had 7 steals. Lockett scored 9 points. Uhlenkott scored 7 with 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Schlader scored 4 points but had 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Johnson scored 2 points.
Prairie dominated the boards 46-29.
Prairie was 17 for 56 from the field, 30%, and 12 for 25 from the line, 48%., They were 10 for 13 at the line in the fourth quarter after going 2 for 12 the first 3 quarters. Genesee was 13 for 38 from the field, 34%, and 7 for 11 at the line, 64%.
Prairie is now 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in league play.
Prairie easily won the JV game 50-12.
Prairie jumped out to a 14-0 lead with Rehder and Walsh each scoring 4 points while Klapprich, Prigge and Chloe Rowland each scored 2.
Genesee got onto the scoreboard with a 3-pointer that was answered by a basket from Prigge. Genesee added a basket to make it 16-5 at the end of the quarter.
Prairie started the second quarter just like the first, with a 14-0 run as they took a 30-5 lead.
Rehder scored 8 of those 14 points with Taylor Riener scored 4 and Lustig the other 2.
Genesee only scored 1 point in the quarter and that came at the 2:59 mark. Rehder and Walsh each added a basket to make it 34-6 at the half.
Prairie only started the third quarter with a 6-0 run on a putback by Prigge and 2 baskets by Enneking.
After a Genesee free throw, Rehder sank a 3, Enneking added a basket and Prigge hit a 3-pointer for 48-7 lead.
Genesee then finally scored their first basket since the 10 second mark of the first quarter to close out the third quarter scoring.
With a 48-9 lead, the game went to running clock mode for the final quarter.
Genesee converted a 3-point play and Geis scored 2 free throws for the only scoring in the final quarter.
Rehder wound up with 17 points to outscore Genesee all by herself. Prigge scored 9 with Enneking scoring 6. Walsh, Geis and Riener scored 4 points each and Klapprich, Rowland and Lustig each scored 2 points.
Prairie had a 24-21 edge on the boards led by Prigge with 5.
Walsh had 6 steals while Klapprich and Enneking each had 4. Prigge and Walsh each had 4 assists while Enneking and Rehder each had 3.
Prairie was 22 for 47 from the field, 47%, and 4 for 9 at the line, 44%. Genesee was 4 for 20 from the field, 20%, and 3 for 5 at the line, 60%.
