School Board meets A draft plan to allow more attendees at high school athletic events was reviewed at the December meeting of the school board Monday, Dec. 21. The only real change from what the local district is currently doing is that it would allow both parents of each player to attend home games as well as away games where fans are allowed to attend for basketball. Gus Hoene took issue with some of the language in the draft proposal and asked Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann to address that when she discusses the proposal with the state. He also asked who is going to enforce the penalties? The state board is not an enforcement agency. Are the State Police going to do it? In the only action item on the agenda, the board decided to keep the January and February meeting dates on the third Monday even though they are school holidays. The school inspection report came back with no unsafe or hazardous issues found. In the facilities report Forsmann said they have added 4 door security locks, 2 at the Elementary and 2 at the Jr./Sr. High School. Jon Rehder reported an issue with one of them that they will get fixed. Upcoming projects are the flooring at the Elementary School; getting gym floors refinished; replacing lockers at both schools. In her principal’s report Forsmann said the Winter Concert was held Dec. 18 and streamed both on Facebook and YouTube Live. They had quite a few watching it, about the same on both sites. A ZOOM attendance assembly was held Friday, Dec. 4. They had 4 new students start this week with 2 more scheduled to start Jan. 4. 214 students on Sept. 30 and 220 on Jan. 4 at Prairie Elementary. In her superintendent’s report Forsmann noted she has been monitoring attendance of staff and students and it has been good. She is gearing up for the legislative session which is set to start Jan. 11. The calendar committee met Dec. 16. They will have a 2021-22 school calendar ready for the board at the January meeting. Rehder reported he cancelled the order for the Pixellot cameras. He hadn’t heard anything back since the order and decided he could do the home games on Facebook Live the rest of the basketball season. He’s been getting a lot of positive feedback since he started having Stan Lockett do the camera and he started adding play-by-play. The Christmas concert was on Facebook Live Dec. 16 and went well. Although there was no Idaho County Shootout this year the school went ahead with a canned food drive and collected 3,863 canned food items with monetary donations counted as $1 per can. All health students will be certified in CPR in January using Advanced Opportunity Funds. Mr. Coffelt became certified as an instructor and is able to certify his students. The Crisis Team will hold a meeting Thursday Jan. 7. Team members are Shane Chapman, Suzi Quintal, Shelley Schlader, Jeff Martin, Kristi Bruegeman, Vikki Riener, Marlene Forsmann and the administrators, Rene’ Forsmann and Jon Rehder. It’s one of those things they hope they never need but it’s a good thing to have if you do. He reported winter athletics are going well so far. There have been a few schedule issues due to Covid but they are working through them. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, January 18 at 7 p.m.
