Prairie to host District opener The 1A-D1 District 2 Girls Basketball Tournament will look a little different this year due to Covid-19. Only the top 6 teams in the league will make the tournament with the top 2 seeds getting first round byes and the higher seeds hosting the games. #6 Troy will be at #3 Genesee and #5 C.V. will be at #4 Kamiah on Monday, Feb. 8 with both games set to start at 6 p.m. Both of these games are loser-out. On Wednesday, Feb. 10, Lapwai will host the lowest remaining seed and Prairie will host the highest remaining seed with both games set to start at 6 p.m. If the seeding holds Lapwai would play Kamiah and Prairie would play Genesee. Wednesday’s winners will play for the District Championship at the higher seeds home court at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, while the two losers will also play at 6 p.m. Friday at the higher seeds home court. The District champion goes to state as the District’s #1 seed while the #2 seed to state will be decided at 6 p.m. Saturday between the championship game loser and the winner of the other game Friday. Only 2 teams from our District advance to state this year. State
will again be at Columbia High School in Nampa but the schedule has
been moved up a day. The tournament will start on Wednesday, Feb. 17
and conclude on Friday, Feb. 19.
The Prairie Lady Pirates will start District play next Wednesday, Feb. 10 with a game at the PHS gym at 6 p.m.. Opponent to be determined but likely to be Genesee.
