School Board meets The School Board met with a light agenda Monday, Feb. 22. They approved for hire Eric Coffelt as the Jr. High Assistant Track Coach. The also approved the resignation of Stacie Jackson as a cook. The emergency school closure on Feb. 16 was approved by the board as well. In her principal’s report Rene’ Forsmann said the elementary staff are participating in a book club. She also reported that the school held the annual spelling bee and listed all the class winners. Corbyn Tacke and Mesa Graning were the 3rd grade winners. Derek Goeckner and Ray Terhaar were the 4th grade winners. Alaina DeCaria and Reagan Brannan were 5th grade winners. Olivia Uhlenkott and Kade Quintal won in the 6th grade. Hayden Johnson and Sydney Shears won in the 7th grade and Monica Goeckner and Ashlyn North won in the 8th grade. Monica Goeckner was the overall winner and will compete in a virtual district meet. She also listed the teacher assignments for next year. Michelle Bledsoe will teach Kindergarten. Ashley Sowa and Rachel Hernandez will teach 1st grade. Julie Schumacher and Allason Zenner are the 2nd grade teachers. Vikki Riener and Alecia Hagen will teach 3rd grade. Becky Higgins and Andrea Brannan will teach 4th grade. Kim Schumacher Kristi Bruegeman will teach 5th grade and Colleen Sonnen will teach 6th grade. In her superintendent report she shared information on other proposed school levies in the area. The District 242 levy amount will be set at the March meeting. In her facilities report she listed the proposed projects. Some have already been completed such as adding some door security locks. Also completed are the high school locker room sinks and faucets. Also completed were high school drinking fountains and 1 of 3 proposed for the Elementary School. Gus Hoene suggested adding some kind of lean-to or awning over the outside doors at the Auxiliary Gym. In his report, Jon Rehder said Prairie will host a boys District game on Wednesday at 6 p.m. He reported the girls finished second at state. Hoene and Tara Klapprich both thanked Rehder for all the extra work he had to do this year due to the ticket situation at state. Spring sports get started this Friday, Feb. 26. Practices will be in the gyms. The blood drive is set for March 16 with 33 donors signed up. They have room for 5 more. If they have 30 successful donors they will get another $2,000 STEM check. Seniors took the Workforce Readiness Exam on Feb. 5. 23 of 34 scored an 80% or better with 13 scoring over 90%. 14 students took the ACT on Feb. 6. The school purchased a new embroidery machine for the tech program. Rehder passed around a hat with a Prairie Pirate logo done by the new machine.Della Gehring will be working with her sewing students on this. The Prom is set for May 8. They are still looking for an English teacher for next year. The board adjourned to an executive session at 7:30 p.m. The next regular meeting of the board will be Monday, March 15 at 7 p.m. |
