Lady Pirates win 5 of 6
The Prairie Lady Pirates won 4 home softball games and split a pair on the road this past week to improve to 7-1 on the season.
On Tuesday, April 13 they won a league game over Nezperce 40-0. On Thursday, April 15, they swept Lapwai 32-22 and 20-5. Finally on Friday, April 16, they beat Kamiah/CV 25-2. Finally on Monday, April 19, they traveled to Kendrick and split a doubleheader 13-10 and 10-20.
Mackenzie Key tossed a 2-hit shutout while the Lady Pirates scored almost at will in the league game against Nezperce.
Key gave up a hit to leadoff the game and another in the fifth inning. She walked just 4 batters and struck out 4.
Prairie meanwhile pounded out 16 hits and took advantage of a plethora of walks and hit batsmen to pile up their runs.
The first inning leadoff hitter for Nezperce stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, the inning ended when the next batter lined out to Madison Shears at shortstop. She then threw to third to double off the runner.
The bottom of the first saw 25 batters go to the plate as the Pirates scored 19 runs.
Shears led off with a walk and scored the only run the Pirates needed when Key followed with a triple to left.
The first 7 Prairie hitters all reached base and scored. After an out, the next 12 batters all reached base and scored. Riley Enneking, Gracie Farr, Laney Forsmann and Ember Martin each had a single in the inning while 17 batters reached base via walk or hit batter.
In the second inning Key walked two batters but got out of the inning on a rare 9-6 double play where the runners took off on a fly ball to right fielder Enneking who caught the ball and threw to shortstop Madison Shears who tagged second base to double off the runner and end the inning.
Prairie added 15 more runs in the second inning as 20 batters went to the plate.
After 3 walks and a single by Martin, Nezperce changed pitchers. The new pitcher was unable to get an out as she faced 9 batters, walking 6, hitting 1 and giving up a single each to Martin and Shears.
Nezperce changed pitchers again and Eve Uhlenkott greeted the new pitcher with a bases loaded 3-run triple to left. The Pirates were able to add 2 more runs and Tara Schlader and Farr each had a hit.
Prairie led 34-0 after 2 innings.
Key allowed 1 baserunner in the top of the third for Nezperce but the game continued as Nezperce wanted to play 5 innings to get their players more game time.
Nezperce’s third pitcher was at least able to throw some strikes and didn’t give up all the free passes her two predecessors did. Prairie added just 2 runs in the bottom of the third. Key reached on a 1 out walk and Uhlenkott followed with a single. Remacle then singled home both runners to make it 36-0 after 3 innings.
Key set the side down in order in the top of the fourth and Prairie added 4 more runs in the bottom of the inning.
Forsmann led off with a single and Martin reached on a dropped popup by the pitcher. Shears walked but was forced at second by Key as Forsmann scored. Uhlenkott then hit a 3-run homer to straightaway centerfield to make it 40-0.
Key gave up a walk and a hit in the top of the fifth but got a pair of forceouts and a strikeout to keep the shutout intact.
Uhlenkott had a homer, triple and single with 9 RBI. Martin had 3 singles and an RBI. Enneking had 2 singles and 3 RBI. Forsmann had 2 singles and 3 RBI. Farr had 2 singles and 2 RBI. Key had a triple and 4 RBI. Remacle had a single and 5 RBI. Shears had a single and 2 RBI. Schlader had a single and 2 RBI.

Against Lapwai, Prairie completed the game that was suspended by darkness after 6 innings with the score tied at 21-21 on April 18.
Prairie erupted for 11 runs in the top of the seventh inning and held Lapwai to just 1 in the bottom of the inning to win the suspended game 32-22.
Prairie had 10 hits in the game as Uhlenkott had 4 singles, Key had 3 singles, Shears had a grand slam homer and a single and Remacle had a triple.
Key gave up 22 runs on 15 hits to Lapwai. Lapwai also had a grand slam homer that tied the game at 21 in the bottom of the sixth.
In the second game Lapwai scored 2 runs in the top of the first inning but Prairie responded with 12 in the bottom of the inning.
Lapwai didn’t score in the second inning and Prairie added 4 for a 16-2 lead.
Lapwai scored 3 in the top of the third but Prairie came back and scored 4 to end the game on the 15-run mercy rule.
Prairie had 8 hits in the game as Remacle had a homer and a single. Shears and Uhlenkott each had a double and a single and Enneking and Forsmann each added a single.
Key gave up 5 runs on 7 hits.

In a non-league encounter against the combined Kamiah/CV team, Schlader tossed a 3-inning no-hitter as Prairie won 25-2.
Schlader, who struggled to throw strikes in her previous outing at Grangeville walked 5 batters but struck out 6. She gave up 2 runs in the top of the third inning.
Prairie meanwhile had their second 19-run first inning of the week and added 6 more runs in the second to win 25-2 with the game ending after 2½ innings on the 15-run mercy rule.
Prairie pounded out 18 hits in the game with 6 hitters collecting at least 2 hits. Key had 2 triples and a single. Remacle had 2 doubles and a single. Shears had a triple and 2 singles. Eve Uhlenkott had a double and 2 singles. Enneking had a double and a single. Farr had 2 singles, Amelia Uhlenkott and Martin each had a single.

Shears had a double, a homer and 5 RBI to lead Prairie to a 13-10 win in the first game of a league doubleheader at Kendrick.
Enneking added 4 hits including a double while Key had a pair of singles, Eve Uhlenkott had a double and Farr had a single.
Free passes and Kendrick errors also helped the Pirates cause in the opener as Kendrick outhit the Pirates 10-17.
Prairie was the home team for the first game. Kendrick scored first with 2 runs in the second inning but Prairie scored 4 to take the lead. Kendrick took the lead back with 3 in the third inning but Prairie also scored 3 to retake the lead.
Prairie extended the lead to 10-5 after 4 innings. Kendrick pulled within 10-7 after 5 and 10-9 after the top of the sixth.
Prairie scored 3 in the bottom of the sixth to make it 13-9.
Kendrick scored 1 in the seventh as Prairie held on for the win.
Key pitched the entire game for Prairie.
In the second game Prairie led after just 1 half inning. Kendrick scored 5 in the bottom of the first. Prairie answered with 3 in the second but Kendrick added 2 in the bottom of the inning.
Prairie took their only lead after a 5-run third at 8-7 but Kendrick took the lead back with 2 in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-9.
Kendrick scored 5 in the fourth to make it 8-14. Prairie added single runs in the fifth and sixth to cut the deficit to 10-14 but Kendrick came up with 6 in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Schlader was the starting pitcher in the second game for Prairie and was lifted in the third inning with Key going back to the circle.
Prairie had 7 hits in the game with Martin, Key and Remacle each collecting a double while Schlader, Shears, Enneking and Eve Uhlenkott each had a single.
Prairie is now 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in league play.
