Fr. Jerry Funke provided identification to the above and below photso that we had in the April 15 print edition of the Chronicle. He says of the above photo, “This is Joseph Schmidt (1864 - 1916) and his wife Philomena--Nuxoll, later 2nd marriage Jansen--(1867 - 1945).  They arrived on the Prairie from Greencreek, Illinois, in 1888.  First settled north of Cottonwood (past the ponds).  With the opening of the Reservation in 1896, they were one of the original settlers and founders of Greencreek.  The boy is their son Henry (1888 - 1970) and their daughter Frances (1890 - 1968), later married Anton Schumacher (my maternal grandparents).   Joseph and Philomenia would have 8 more children.  So the other photo (below) is an adult Henry with his wife and children.” Click on each photo for a larger view.
