Lady Pirates win twice
The Prairie Lady Pirates won twice this past week. On Thursday, April 29 they won 20-7 at Nezperce and on Friday, April 30 they won on Senior Night over Culdesac 18-3.
A doubleheader scheduled for Monday, May 3 at Genesee was postponed to Tuesday, May 4 due to the Genesee coach having the flu. They wound up splitting those games, 6-11 and 24-4. They have 2 league games remaining at Potlatch Friday, May 7. If they win at least 1 they would clinch 2nd place and not have to host a play-in game Tuesday at Cottonwood. If they lose both they could wind up in a second place tie with Kendrick and maybe have to host a play-in game Tuesday, May 11, depending on which school has the tiebreaker advantage.
The Lady Pirates started the week with a win at Nezperce in 5 innings.
Prairie scored 4 in the first, 3 in the second and 8 in the third inning to build a 15-0 lead. In the bottom of the third Nezperce scored their first runs in two games against the Pirates as they put a 6-spot on the board to extend the game.
Prairie came right back with 5 runs in the fourth for a 20-6 lead. Nezperce added 1 in the bottom of the fifth then the game was called on the 10-run mercy rule.
Josie Remacle had a big day at the plate with 2 doubles and a triple and 5 RBI. Tara Schlader had a single and a triple. Madison Shears had a double and Mackenzie Key, Eve Uhlenkott, Riley Enneking and Gracie Farr each had a single as Prairie pounded out 10 hits.
Nezperce actually outhit the Pirates with 11 hits, 10 singles and a double.

Prairie had to complete the game against Culdesac that had been deemed a forfeit for lack of players on Monday. Discussion with the IHSAA and the District 2 umpires association led to the conclusion that it should have been played. With Troy cancelling the rest of their season, the completion was scheduled for Friday, April 30 and also served as Senior Night.
After the game was over, seniors Madison Shears and Eve Uhlenkott were honored along with their families.
On Friday the game was picked up in the top of the second inning with the score tied at 1-1. Culdesac’s had a leadoff triple then scored on a passed ball. Eve Uhlenkott had reached on a 2-out single and then scored on a triple by Remacle.
In the second inning Key gave up a 2-out walk then picked up her second strikeout to end the inning.
Prairie then erupted for 8 runs in the bottom of the inning. Enneking walked and Farr reached on catcher’s interference. After an out, Ember Martin hit a grounder to third and the bases wound up loaded as Culdesac couldn’t make a play anywhere.
Shears reached on an error with Enneking scoring the go-ahead run. After a second out, Eve Uhlenkott looped the ball behind second for a single that wound up clearing the bases with Uhlenkott going to second as the Wolves committed an error trying to get the ball back in. Remacle then hit her second triple to the wide open right field to score Uhlenkott. Enneking walked and stole second. Farr then singled home both runners to make it 9-1.
Culdesac still had just 8 eligible players so the third inning started with an out. Culdesac then put together 3 straight hits to score 2 runs and cut the lead to 9-3.
In the bottom of the third Martin reached on an error and wound up at second base. She went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Key’s 1-out single. That made it 10-3.
In the fourth Key gave up a 2-out double to the 8^th hitter in the order but then the inning ended on the automatic out for the 9^th place hitter.
In the bottom of the fourth, Prairie needed 3 runs for a 10-run lead to possibly invoke the 10-run rule or 8 runs to end the game on the 15-run mercy rule.
Schlader led off with a single and stole second. Enneking walked and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Farr was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Another wild pitch scored Schlader and moved up the other runners. After an out, Martin singled up the middle to score both Enneking and Farr. Martin then stole second. Shears beat out an infield hit with Martin going to third. Shears stole second then a wild pitch scored Martin and Shears went to third. Key was hit by a pitch. Eve Uhlenkott then hit a triple to right to score both runners. Remacle followed with a single to score Uhlenkott and get Prairie within 1 run of ending the game.
Remacle stole second. Schlader followed with a rocket down the third base lane that the Culdesac third baseman was able to keep in the infield. Enneking then reached on an error to load the bases. Farr then was hit by a pitch to force home the game-ending run.
Key gave up 3 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Prairie pounded out 13 hits led by Remacle who had a single and 2 triples and 3 RBI. Eve Uhlenkott had 2 singles and a triple and 5 RBI. Schlader had 2 singles and triple and an RBI. Shears had 2 singles and an RBI. Farr had a single and 3 RBI. Martin had a single and 2 RBI.
Prairie is now 10-1 on the season and 7-1 in league play.
