School Board meets The School Board held their regular May meeting Monday, May 17 with most of the action items being either accepting resignations or approving new hires. Resignations were accepted from Elementary Special Education teacher Tara Chapman, HOSA adviser Liz McLeod and high school girls varsity basketball coach Lori Mader. Approved for hire were Rick Forsmann as Maintenance Supervisor, Carmen Sangster for the open English teaching position at the Jr./Sr. High School, Deana Goeckner for the Cook position at the Jr./Sr. High School, Mica Campbell as a second grade instructor and Megan Seubert Frei as the Kindergarten instructor. The current Kindergarten instructor, Michelle Bledsoe, was asked to fill the Elementary Special Education position. Positions still open are the Math/Econ teacher at the high school and girls varsity basketball coach. Also approved was a 3% increase in salaries dependent on the override levy passing. The board also approved the us of the school’s football equipment for the upcoming football camp for the high school team. In reports, Rene’ Forsmann listed the teacher assignments: Kindergarten, Megan Frei; 1st Grade, Ashle’ Sowa and Rachel Hernandez; 2nd Grade, Mica Campbell and Allason Zenner; 3rd grade, Vikki Riener and Julie L. Schumacher; 4th grade, Becky Higgins and Andrea Brannan; 5th grade, Alecia Hagen and Kristi Bruegeman; 6th grade, Colleen Sonnen and Kim Schumacher; Special Education, Michelle Bledsoe. She reported Summer School will be June 14-July 23, a 6 week program offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at no cost to students. She also listed the field trips for Elementary students. In her superintendent’s report Forsmann noted that the District’s health insurance costs were quoted at a 2.8% increase, the lowest increase in many years. She also noted the Summer Food Program will take place from June 1 through July 30. 3 students will be working with Cara Duman as their senior projects. Food pickup will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elementary School. An update on facilities is that the new bus is likely to arrive about a month later than expected but still in plenty of time to be used in the fall. Jon Rehder reported all senior projects were completed by April 21. The FFA Forestry Group attended a competition in Grangeville April 21 and another at Rathdrum on May 10. ISAT and MAP testing is complete. SAT results came in. Prairie is above the state averages, although not as high as they would have liked. Students in the 2nd Semester Health Class will be receiving CPR certification. 6th graders visited the high school on May 12 to tour the school in preparation for next year. Prom went well with 63 couples and a handful of singles attending. All three Spring sports are sending teams to state. Baseball is in Orofino, softball is in Caldwell and track is in Middleton. The awards assembly is set for Thursday, May 27. That day will also be the last day of school for the seniors. Last day of school for the rest of the students is Friday, May 28. Graduation is Friday, May 28, at 7 p.m. in the gym. Football, volleyball and basketball schedules are completed for next year. Denise Mager will run concessions again for next year. The meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, June 21 at 7 p.m.
