Girls 4x200 relay takes state title
The Prairie track team brought home several medals from the State Track Meet at Middleton this past weekend.
None was bigger than the gold medals won by the girls 4x200 relay team of Alli Geis, Ellea Uhlenkott, Julia Rehder and Kristin Wassmuth. They won with a time of 1:51.08. It is the 4th consecutive state track meet that Prairie’s 4x200 girls team placed first. An Uhlenkott was on the team each year as Ellea was on the 2019 team and her sister Laney was on the 2017 and 2018 teams.
The same group of girls also earned a 4th place medal in the 4x100 relay where they had a time of 53.09.
The top individual finisher for Prairie was Matt Coppernoll who placed second in the discus with a toss of 140’8”. He also placed 8th in the shot put with a mark of 41’¼”.
Uhlenkott also earned medals in both hurdles races. She placed 3rd in the 300 hurdles in 48.43 and 4th in the 100 hurdles in 16.75. In the 100 meter prelims she set a new personal best  with a time of 16.12.
Wassmuth also earned a pair of individual medals as she placed 6th in both the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. Her time was 27.28 in the 200 and 1:01.05 in the 400, both personal best marks.
Also earning state medals for the boys were the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Jesse Cronan, Cole Martin, Zach Rambo and T.J. Hibbard made up both teams and finished 4th in both races. They had a time of 45.95 in the 4x100 and 1:35.98 in the 4x200.
The top 6 finishers in each event receive medals.
Competing at state but not earning medals were Hibbard in the discus with a mark of 128’4” to place 8th, Shane Hanson in the discus with a mark of 120’2” to place 10th and Cronan in the long jump with a mark of 16’7” to place 14th.
As a team the boys tied for 13th with 20 points while the girls tied for 5th with 32 points, 2 points out of fourth place where they would have received a team trophy.
