The Hangout has new owners The Hangout has new owners as of June 16. Michael and Candice Van Loon took over from Ron and Debbie Schnider who had created the restaurant in January of 2006 from the former Olive’s Auto Parts store. The Van Loons moved here from Pendleton, OR., where Michael had been a teacher. They decided it was time to look for something different and he was very interested in the small town atmosphere in which to raise their children Warren and Layla. They are starting to put their own stamp on the place although they continue to make their burgers using the 1/3 lb. patties from Sonnen Meats. They plan to do their own hand-breaded chicken strips and have switched to getting their bacon at Riener’s Grocery getting it sliced off of the slab bacon Riener’s gets.. They are looking at trying homemade pizza dough as they know someone with a great recipe. They are still using most of the Schniders’ recipes. They have applied for a beer and wine license and at this time are still waiting for state approval so they can get the County and City licenses. Michael says he is big into sports and is looking at getting some televisions installed so he can host things like football watch parties. They have extended the hours at The Hangout and have added a Monday morning breakfast. They will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays and fr5om 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. They said they have had a few glitches as you might expect from a new venture, but the people have been very supportive. The Hangout has new owners as Michael and Candice Van Loon bought out Ron and Debbie Schnider effective June 16. They are shown with their two children, Warren and Lacey.
