Fair Royalty profiles Queen Dani Sonnen ‘I loved seeing the little girls excited … .’ By Lorie Palmer
“My favorite memories this past year include hearing the crowds during
the parades,” Idaho County Fair Queen Dani Sonnen, 17, said.
Idaho County Free Press Sonnen is the daughter of Norm and Julie Sonnen of Greencreek and the granddaughter of Lynn and Vern Sonnen and Ted and Therese Schmidt, all of Cottonwood. She has five siblings: Jessie, 19; Rachel, 14; Will, 10; Tessa,7; and Mackenzie, 3. A member of Greencreek Active Workers 4-H Club, Sonnen also plays basketball and volleyball at school, as well as being involved in student government, knowledge bowl and school drama productions. Her work experience includes as a ranch hand, daycare provider and nanny, and as a lector for Mass. Continuing on her thoughts on representing Idaho County during parades and events, Sonnen said one little girl was excited jumping up and down and said, “Look, Mom! It’s Anna and Elsa.” “Another of my favorite memories as fair queen was the Little Princess Tea Party,” she added. “I loved seeing the little girls excited about their dresses, crowns and sashes. Their smiles brought me so much joy, and I hope when they are older, they will run for fair royalty.” “Another fun memory was when Olivia, Leann and I had our royalty pictures taken,” she smiled. “In our big, poofy dresses, we tromped through a cow pie laden pasture to take pictures by a barn. Some curious cows smuggled their way into our photos — we even named our favorite cow ‘Betsy.’” Following college, Sonnen plans to attend college and obtain degrees in interior design and business. “I would like to thank my parents, our advisor, Joyce Gehring-Sonnen, and the fair board for making this royalty experience possible for me,” Sonnen said. “I also want to thank Olivia and Leann for a memorable year.”  1st Princess Olivia Klapprich
‘So much fun’

“My royalty experience has been so much fun,” smiled Idaho County Fair
First Princess Olivia Klapprich. “Dani, Leann and I have worked
together to create a great float in order to represent the Idaho County
Fair. I have also gained confidence and improved my speaking skills.”
Idaho County Free Press Klapprich will be a senior at Prairie Junior-Senior High School this fall. She is the daughter of Heath and Tara Klapprich, and granddaughter of Lloyd Uhlenkott and Judy Klapprich and Eugene and JoAnn McHugh, all of Cottonwood. She is sister to Halle, 18; Miranda, 15; Dylan, 13; Ava, 9; and Ruby, 6. Klapprich is in her 11th year as a member of Cottonwood Saddliers and Livestock 4-H Club, and at school she is involved in volleyball, basketball, track, Prairie League (Girls Club) and HOSA (Health Occupational Students of America. She is also a member of Tri-Parish Youth Group and is a Tri-Parish volunteer lector. “The Idaho County Fair royalty hosts a Little Princess Tea Party every year, and we invite girls to spend the afternoon learning about being a princess,” Klapprich commented. “My favorite activity was showing the little girls how to princess wave and curtsy. We had a great turnout and I loved every minute of it!” She also said she had a great experience planning and building the fair float. “We got to be creative, and we became better friends through our teamwork and laughter,” she said. “I enjoyed working with Leann and Dani to make a great float.” Following high school graduation, Klapprich plans to attend the University of Idaho to become an architect. “I appreciate the support we have received from our parents, the fair board, and our advisor, Joyce,” Klapprich added.  2nd Princess Leann Lightfield Favorite events include Christmas parade, tea
“I am very thankful to be given
the opportunity to represent Idaho County this year,” said Leann
Lightfield. She has served as the Idaho County Fair second princess.
Lightfield, 17, recently graduated
from Prairie Junior-Senior High School. She is the daughter of Ron
Lightfield and Lue Boyd and Heather Lightfield, all of Cottonwood.
Lightfield spent kindergarten
through her freshman year of high school as a member of the Keuterville
Livestock 4-H Club. She has a 17-year-old Arabian horse, Lady Ria, and
is a member of the Cottonwood Riding Club.
Lightfield’s family also includes
brother, John Lightfield, 12, and stepsister, Alissa Grossman, 18. She
is involved in cross country at Prairie, as well as FFA, Business
Professionals of America, Prairie League and knowledge bowl. She is
employed by The Hangout as a waitress.
“I plan to attend the University
of Idaho following graduation and major in dietetics and become a
registered dietician,” she said.
Her favorite events of the year included the Cottonwood Christmas parade and the Little Princess Tea Party.
