25 turn out for Prairie boys basketball
PIRATES BOYS BASKETBALL SCHEDULE FOR 2021-22
There are 25 players turned out for the Prairie boys basketball team as of Monday, Nov. 29. Returning players who started at least some of the games last year are seniors Kyle Schwartz, Wyatt Ross, Zach Rambo and Lane Schumacher. Another returning senior is Travis Alfrey. The Pirates will feature more height this year with juniors Morgan Poxleitner at 6’9”, sophomore Lee Forsmann at 6’6” and junior Shane Hanson at 6’5”. There will be 5 players who play both varsity and JV. They are juniors Colton McElroy and Wesley Riener, sophomores Noah Behler and Trenton Lorentz and freshman Matthew Wemhoff. JV/C players are juniors Connor Forsman and Ryan Wemhoff, sophomores Ben Elven and Dylan Forsmann and freshmen Briggs Rambo, Collin Ray, Logan Weber, Carter Shears, Dylan Uhlenkott, Kaden Duclos, Cole Duclos and Colt Kehler. With 4 starters back the Pirates should be in the mix for a state berth again this year. This year there will be 2½ teams qualifying from District 2 with the third place team at District traveling to Post Falls to play the District 1 champion for a state berth. Defending state champion Lapwai is expected to be the class of the White Pine League again as they return nearly their entire team. Genesee will also be a top contender. Prairie returns the entire coaching staff with Shawn Wolter as head coach and Justin Jones as JV coach with Glenn Poxleitner and Pat Holthaus helping out. The Pirates first varsity game will be at Grangeville this Friday, Dec. 3 as part of the Idaho County Shootout. The JV and C teams get into action Wednesday, Dec. 1 with home games against Grangeville. The Pirates run a play during practice Monday. Lee Forsmann has the bowl at the elbow.
