The St. John Bosco Patriot boys won twice last week over Nezperce and Kendrick while the girls team lost to both of those schools. On Tuesday, Dec. 7, the boys beat Nezperce 63-48 while the girls lost 31-46. On Thursday, Dec. 9, the boys bat Kendrick 53-48 while the girls lost 20-54. All the games were played at Cottonwood. The boys team was led by Tory Chmelik who led the scoring with 25 points and connected on four 3-pointers against the Nighthawks at Cottonwood. SJB led 17-12 at the end of the first quarter and pulled away in the second quarter for a 35-20 halftime lead. Each team scored 28 points in the second half as SJB worked on maintaining their lead. Dustin Kaschmitter scored 7 points and led in rebounds with 10. Luke Stubbers scored 8, Stallone Hoene 7, Cody Wassmuth 6 and Clay Weckman 6 each and Levi Wassmuth 4. the Patriots got off to a slow start as Nezperce took a 2-10 lead by
the end of the first quarter.Nezperce pushed the lead to 14 by halftime at 13-27. SJB played the Nighthawks close in the second half as Nezperce outscored them just 18-19 after the break. Jade Prigge was the Patriots’ leading scorer with 18 points followed by Julia Wassmuth with 6. Dani Sonnen scored 5 and Raylee Warren scored 2. The boys league game against Kendrick
was a back and forth affair with the Patriots able to shut down the
Tigers in the fourth quarter and pull out the win.Kendrick led 13-15 after one quarter but the Patriots took a 25-23 lead at the half. Kendrick outscored St. John Bosco 9-19 in the third quarter to take an 8-point lead into the fourth. In the fourth SJB switched to a box and 1 defense and were able to shut down Kendrick’s Ty Koepp, who scored 14 of his team high 17 points in the first 3 quarters. SJB outscored the tigers 19-6 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win. Cody Wassmuth led all scorers with 23 points while Stubbers and Chmelik each added 13. Kaschmitter added 4 for the winners. In the girls game against Kendrick the Tigers dominated from the start.St. John Bosco trailed 6-16 after one quarter and were shut out in the second as Kendrick took a 6-30 halftime lead. It was 12-47 after 3 quarters with the fourth quarter played under a running clock. Kendrick apparently concentrated on shutting down Prigge as she was held scoreless. Rachel Sonnen led the Patriots with 10 points with Noelle Chmelik adding 6 and Wassmuth 4. St. John Bosco is now 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
