Lady Pirates win twice The Prairie Lady Pirates picked up a pair of league road wins to finish off 2021. On Thursday, Dec. 16, they traveled to Kooskia where they shut down the C.V. Lady Rams 61-20. On Friday, Dec. 17, they traveled to Potlatch and used a 21-0 second quarter run to breeze to a 55-27 win. At C.V.
In the game at C.V., Prairie held the Lady Rams to 9 points or less in each quarter as they rolled to an easy win.Prairie led 21-5 after 1 quarter and 38-8 at the half. They extended the lead to 52-11 after 3 quarters with the fourth quarter played under a running clock. Tara Schlader led the team with 17 points, 12, rebounds and 6 assists. Kristin Wemhoff added 15 points and 6 steals while Molly Johnson had a new personal high with 11 points and added 5 steals. Delanie Lockett scored 7 points, Gracie Farr 6, Laney Forsmann 5 and Olivia Klapprich 2. Lockett had Prairie’s only 3-pointer. There was no JV game. In the game at Potlatch, Prairie
jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Lockett got fouled on an offensive rebound
and made the second of two free throws to start the scoring. Forsmann
then scored a putback. Schlader sank 2 free throws and Lockett
connected on a 3-pointer for Prairie’s first 8 points.Potlatch go on the scoreboard with a 3-point play and the rest of the first quarter scoring was I score-you score with Prairie getting a pair of baskets from Schlader and a basket each from Josie Remacle and Wemhoff for a 16-7 lead at the quarter break. Potlatch started the second quarter scoring with a 3 then Prairie went on a 21-0 run as the Loggers went 6 minutes without scoring. Lockett started the run with a drive to the hoop. A steal by Johnson led to a basket by Wemhoff. Schlader scored inside. Johnson scored a putback. Schlader scored again in the paint. Lockett hit another 3. Johnson scored inside. Wemhoff scored after making a steal. Forsmann scored a putback and Wemhoff scored inside to make it 37-10. Potlatch broke the run and then added a free throw. Johnson scored another putback to make it 39-13 at the half. With their big lead the intensity dropped off on offense for the Pirates and their shooting suffered as they hit just 3 of 12 shots in the third quarter and 3 of 17 in the fourth. However Potlatch was unable to gain any ground as they were just 5 for 20 in the second half. The Loggers outscored Prairie by 1 in the third quarter, 8-9 but Prairie still took a 47-22 lead into the fourth quarter. Prairie outscored the Loggers 8-5 in the fourth quarter with Schlader scoring the game’s final points with 2:50 left to play. Lockett added two more 3’s in the second half to give her four of them for the game. She led the Pirates in scoring with 16 points. Schlader had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Wemhoff was also in double figures with 10 points. Johnson scored 9, Forsmann 4 and Remacle and Ali Rehder 2 each. Prairie outrebounded Potlatch 52-39 with Remacle leading the way with 11 boards. Forsmann made it 3 players with double figure rebounds with 10. Wemhoff had 8 steals and 8 assists. Forsmann, Lockett and Schlader each had 4 steals while Schlader added 3 assists. Prairie was 23 for 76 from the field, 30%, and 5 for 20 at the line, 25%. Potlatch was 9 for 33 from the field, 27%, and 6 for 16 at the line, 38%. Prairie goes into Christmas break with a 6-2 overall record, 6-1 in league play. There was no JV game.
