The Prairie Lady Pirates added a pair of wins this past week. On Tuesday, Jan. 4, they hosted Kendrick and won 52-46. On Saturday, Jan. 8, they traveled to Troy and held off the Trojans for a 42-36 league win.
On Thursday, Jan. 6, they were supposed to host Orofino but that game got called off due to school closure. That game has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m., varsity only.
In the non-league matchup against White Pine League Division 2 leading Kendrick, Prairie trailed for most of the second half before pulling out the win.
Kendrick jumped out to a 0-8 lead in the game as Prairie went scoreless until Tara Schlader scored a lay-up with 3:50 left in the first quarter. She wound up scoring Prairie’s first 5 points.
Prairie trailed 9-15 after a 3-pointer by Kendrick put rallied within 1 by the end of the quarter. Delanie Lockett made a pair of free throws and Laney Forsmann closed out the scoring in the quarter with a 3-pointer that cut the deficit to 14-15.
Kendrick opened the second quarter with a pair of baskets to take a 14-19 lead then prairie put together an 8-0 run that gave them their first lead of the game. Schlader scored a putback then Kristin Wemhoff scored the next 6 points. She made 2 free throws then drove to the hoop for the go-ahead lay-up with 4:56 left in the half. She scored on another drive to the hoop 20 seconds later for a 22-19 lead. Those two lay-ups were both set up by steals by Schlader.
Kendrick took back the lead on a pair of baskets by 5’10” senior Erin Morgan. With 1:00 left Wemhoff stole the ball and drove for a basket and a 24-23 lead. Kendrick however closed out the half with a 3-pointer for a 24-26 lead at the break.
Kendrick scored first to start the second half then an 11-2 run by the Pirates put them ahead for good. Lockett started the run with a putback. Schlader scored inside to tie it. Kendrick scored to retake the lead then Prairie scored 7 straight points. Lockett made a free throw then Forsmann stole the ball and Lockett scored to put Prairie on top 31-30 with 5:56 left in the third quarter. Josie Remacle scored a putback and Schlader added a basket for a 35-30 lead.
Kendrick got back within 1 at 35-34 before Schlader scored on a feed from Molly Johnson and then Lockett made a 3 for a 40-34 lead. Kendrick’s Morgan scored to close out the quarter and make it 40-36.
Kendrick scored to open the fourth quarter but Forsmann answered. Kendrick again got within 2 with a basket but Remacle scored 2 of 4 free throws and Schlader and Forsmann each added a basket to push the lead to 48-40 with 3:21 left to play.
Kendrick score a pair of baskets to get back within 4 but Ali Rehder sank 2 free throws and Lockett added a free throw to push the lead back to 7 with 31 seconds left.
Kendrick made 2 free throws but Rehder added another free throw to close out the scoring.
On the downside, Johnson suffered an injury and may be out several games.
Schlader wound up as Prairie’s leading scorer with 15 points with Lockett scoring 11, Forsmann 9, Wemhoff 8, Remacle 6 and Rehder 3.
Kendrick, with their size advantage, had a 29-41 rebounding edge. Schlader and Remacle each had 7 rebounds to lead the Pirates.
Wemhoff had 8 steals and 4 assists.
Prairie was 19 for 53 from the field, 36%, and 12 for 23 at the line, 52%. Kendrick was 20 for 49 from the field, 41%, and 4 for 7 at the line, 57%.
Kendrick’s Morgan led all scorers with 18 points as she was 9 for 10 from the field.
In the JV game Prairie never lead until late in the third quarter but pulled out a 37-34 win.
Kendrick jumped out to a 2-13 lead and led 4-15 at the end of the first quarter. Prairie was limited to just 6 shots attempts as they turned the ball over 9 times. Lexi Schumacher and Alli Geis each had a basket for Prairie.
Prairie turned things around in the second quarter as they opened with a 7-0 run to get back into the game. Riley Enneking got things going with a steal and then Isabella Walsh scored Prairie’s next 5 points on a free throw and 2 baskets.
Prairie outscored Kendrick 10-2 in the second quarter as they cut their deficit to just 3 by halftime, 14-17. They trailed 11-17 when Taylor Riener scored a basket and Enneking a free throw to close out the half.
Kendrick scored first in the second half then Prairie scored 5 straight to tie the game for the first time since it was 2-2. Walsh scored a basket and a free throw and Schumacher then scored the tying basket.
Kendrick answered with 4 straight but Schumacher answered back with 2 baskets to again tie it at 23-23.
Another trade of baskets had the scored tied at 25-25 after Schumacher stole the ball and scored. Kendrick took the lead 1 more time with a free throw but Schumacher answered with a basket with 1:10 left in the quarter to give Prairie their first lead at 27-26. That’s how the quarter ended.
Walsh scored from the elbow to open the fourth quarter but Kendrick answered. Walsh scored again to make it 31-28 but Kendrick scored a basket and a free throw to tie it at 31.
With 4:10 left Ellie Nuxoll scored on a feed from Schumacher to give Prairie the lead for good.
Walsh scored for make it a 4 point lead then Kendrick cut the lead to 1 with 1:54 left.
Neither team scored until with 13 seconds left a Kendrick turnover led to 2 free throws by Walsh that made the final scored 37-34.
Walsh led the scoring with 13 points with Schumacher adding 12. Enneking scored 6 with Geis, Riener and Nuxoll adding 2 points each.
Prairie was outrebounded 31-38. Geis led the Pirates with 11 rebounds.
Walsh had 7 steals while Schumacher had 6. Walsh led in assists with 4.
The JB’s were 16 for 46 from the field, 35%, and 5 for 14 at the line, 36%. Kendrick was 15 for 45 from the field, 33%, and 4 for 12 at the line, 33%.

In the game at Troy Prairie jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never trailed but things got a little dicey towards the end after 2 starters fouled out.
Remacle got the scoring started with a basket and Schlader followed with a basket. Lockett converted a 3-point play and added another basket. Schlader closed out the 11-0 start.
Prairie then went cold on offense as they were held scoreless for nearly 7 minutes as Troy scored 8 straight points to get within 3 at 11-8 with 6:01 left in the half.
Lockett finally broke the cold spell with a steal and drive for a basket. Schlader followed with a lay-up on an inbounds play and Wemhoff scored to make it 17-8.
Troy then outscored Prairie 2-4 the rest of the half with Gracie Farr scoring Prairie’s only 2 points from the free throw line. Prairie led 19-12 at the half.
Prairie opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 16 points lead. Remacle scored 6 of those 9 points with Wemhoff adding a basket and Schlader a free throw.
Troy finally scored with 2:17 left in the quarter and Forsmann answered with a 3-pointer for a 31-14 lead.
After Troy scored a basket, Prairie closed out the third quarter with 5 straight points. Schlader scored a basket and a free throw and Forsmann scored a basket to make it 36-16.
Troy scored the first 3 points of the fourth quarter then Schlader made a free throw. Just after that Wemhoff picked up her fifth foul on a blocking foul where it appeared she had taken a charge.
With Prairie’s primary ballhandler out of the game, Troy ramped up their full-court press and forced several turnovers.
Prairie still led by 14 at 39-25 when Schlader went to the bench with 5 fouls with 3:49 left. Troy made one of those two free throws to make it 39-26.
Forsmann scored to push the lead back to 15 but Troy answered with a 3-pointer.
With 1:56 to play, Remacle made a free throw that turned out to be Prairie’s final point. Several more turnovers led to Troy scoring the final 7 points of the game as they cut the final margin down to just 6 points. If there had been a few more minutes to play, Prairie might have lost despite leading by 20 after 3 quarters.
Prairie had 9 of their 23 turnovers in the fourth quarter after Wemhoff fouled out with Forsmann, normally a post player, doing the best job of handling the ball against the pressure.
Schlader wound up as the leading scorer with 13 points. Remacle scored 9, Lockett and Forsmann 7 each, Wemhoff 4 and Farr 2.
Prairie had a 44-33 edge on the boards led by Forsmann with 11 rebounds, Schlader with 10 and Lockett with 9.
Forsmann had 5 steals and Wemhoff had 10 assists.
Prairie was 17 for 48 from the field, 35%, and 7 for 22 at the line, 32%. Troy was 13 for 44 from the field, 30%, and 7 for 18 at the line, 39%.
Prairie is now 8-2 on the season, 7-1 in league play.
The JV was just 2 quarters with Prairie pulling away late for a 31-16 win.
The lead changed hands 3 times in the first quarter. Troy led 6-9 but Prairie got a basket each from Geis and Enneking to take a 10-9 lead at the end of the quarter.
Geis scored twice on inbounds plays to open the second quarter and give Prairie a 14-9 lead.
Troy scored 3 to get back within 2 but a free throw by Sarah Lustig and a steal and ensuing basket by Aubree Rehder made it 17-12.
After a Troy free throw, a basket by Enneking and another free throw by Lustig made it 20-13.
A Troy basket cut the lead to 5 then Prairie scored 9 straight points to make it 29-15 with 1:34 left. Schumacher scored the first 7 points of the run with 2 baskets plus a 3-pointer. A steal by Schumacher led to a basket by Enneking that ended the run.
Troy scored a free throw with 24 seconds left but Schumacher capped things with a drive to the hoop with 10 seconds to play for a 15 point win.
Schumacher wound up with 12 points on 5 for 8 shooting to lead the scoring. Geis scored 7, Enneking 6, Rehder 4 and Lustig 2.
Troy had a 15-20 rebounding edge. Enneking led Prairie with 5 rebounds with Lustig adding 4.
Schumacher had 5 steals and 3 assists with Enneking had 2 steals and 3 assists.
The JVs were 13 for 26 from the field, 50%, and 3 for 13 at the line, 23%. Troy was 5 for 16 from the field, 31%, and 6 for 16 at the line, 38%.
The JV team also won against Clarkston on Friday, Jan. 7 by a blowout score of 75-8.
