Pirates are 1-1 on the week
The Prairie boys team split a pair of league games last week as they lost Tuesday, Jan. 11 at Kamiah by a score of 38-44, they survived an epic rally by Logos on Friday, Jan. 14 to win 59-56 in overtime at Cottonwood.
At Kamiah
In the game at Kamiah the Pirates had a big second quarter as they turned a 6-8 first quarter deficit into a 24-10 halftime lead.
Kamiah turned things around though in the second half as they outscored Prairie 7-21 in the third quarter to tie the game at 31-31. They then outscored the Pirates 7-13 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
Zach Rambo led the Pirates in scoring with 13 points. Lane Schumacher scored 9, Wyatt Ross 7, Lee Forsmann 5 and Shane Hanson 4.
Prairie was able to win the JV game 38-24.

Vs. Logos
The home game against Logos saw the Pirates trail most of the first half, take the lead in the third quarter and build the lead in the fourth to as many as 12 points. Then they coughed up that 12 point lead and had to win the game in overtime.
Prairie scored the first points in the game on a bank shot by Rambo. Logos then scored 7 straight to take the lead. Lee Forsmann goes for a lay-up against Logos.
The Knights would hold the lead until well into the third quarter.
Lee Forsmann broke the early scoring drought with a lay-up after he came off the bench. He didn’t start due to a collision with the wall during practice earlier in the week. He wound up scoring 5 of Prairie’s 7 first quarter points.
A harbinger of things to come was that the Pirates were 1 for 5 at the line in the opening quarter.
Logos built their lead up to 10 points at 11-21 with 5:05 left in the half thanks to six 3-point baskets.
Rambo started a 7-0 Pirate run with a basket. A steal by Kyle Schwartz led to a lay-up by Schumacher and then Schumacher connected on a 3 pointer to get the Pirates within 3 at 18-21.
A basket and their seventh 3 of the half put Logos back up by 8. In the final minute of the half Schwartz scored on a 1-hander in the lane and followed that up with a 3-pointer to make it 23-26 at the half and give Prairie some momentum.
Rambo drove to the hoop for a lay-up to cut the deficit to 1 but Logos answered with a basket. A 3 by Schumacher tied it at 28, the first tie of the game since 0-0.
Another 3 by Logos put the Knights back on top but Forsmann scored the next 4 points on a free throw, basket and free throw for a 32-31 lead.
The lead changed again on 2 free throws by the Knights.
A basket each by Rambo and Schumacher gave Prairie a 36-33 lead after 3 quarters.
Another basket by Rambo made it a 5-point lead. After a 3 by Logos, Prairie scored 7 straight to take a 45-36 lead. Two baskets by Forsmann bracketed a 3 by Schumacher.
A 3 by Logos cut the lead to 6 but Prairie then scored 6 straight points, all at the free throw line, over the next 3:20 of the game. They hit 6 of 9 free throws in that stretch to give them a 51-39 lead with 1:05 left to play.
At that point it looked like the game was in hand. Make a few free throws and go home a winner, right?
Logos hit a 3-pointer then fouled Ross. He missed 2 and Logos scored a free throw to get within 8 with 41 seconds left. Ross was fouled again and missed twice. Logos scored a 3 to pull within 5 with 26 seconds left. Schwartz, Rambo and Schumacher each missed a pair at the line and Logos scored 2 free throws to pull within 3 and then with 2 seconds left Will Casebolt put up a high arching shot from about 25 feet out that swished to tie the game at 51-51. Rambo’s 40 footer at the buzzer missed and the game went to overtime.
Logos had wiped out a 12-point deficit in just 65 seconds.
The break to start overtime gave Prairie a chance to reset and 43 seconds into the extra period, Ross scored on a drive to the hoop to put Prairie back into the lead.
Rambo missed 2 more free throws and Logos was able to tie it again at 53 with 1:28 left.
Forsmann was fouled with 1:05 left and missed the first shot to make it 13 straight missed free throws. He made the second to put Prairie back into the lead.
Logos missed on their end and Rambo scored on a drive to the hoop for a 3 point lead with 38 seconds left.
Forsmann again made the second of 2 free throws for a 4 point lead with 18 seconds left. Schumacher made 2 free throws with 10 seconds left for a 6 point lead.
Logos was able to hit a final 3-pointer to cut the final margin to 3 points.
Forsmann wound up as the Pirates’ leading scorer with 18 points. Schumacher was right behind with 17. Rambo scored 12, Schwartz 7, Ross 3 and Hanson 2.
Casebolt for Logos topped all scorers with 23 points and had seven 3-pointers. 14 of the 18 baskets made by Logos were 3-pointers.
Rebounding was even at 42 each. Forsmann led the Pirates with 13 rebounds while Schwartz had 8.
Ross had 3 steals and Schumacher had 4 assists.
Prairie was 21 for 51 from the field, 41%, and 13 for 38 at the line, 34%. Logos was 18 for 56 from the field, 32%, and 6 for 15 at the line, 40%.
Prairie is now 5-2 in league play and 9-2 overall.
Prairie also won the JV game by a score of 67-50.
Prairie jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never trailed in the game. Bennie Elven, Trenton Lorentz, Noah Behler and Matthew Wemhoff each scored a basket in that opening run.
Logos got back within 3 points at 13-10 after a pair of 3-pointers but Prairie responded with a basket each by Behler and Weston Riener. Behler added 4 more points in the quarter as Prairie led 21-15 at the end of the period.
Wemhoff opened the second quarter scoring with a basket and Behler added 4 more points as Prairie took a 27-15 lead.
Prairie’s biggest lead of the half came at 32-19 after a free throw by Dylan Forsmann. Logos outscored Prairie 1-7 the rest of the half to pull within 7 at the break, 33-26.
Logos got the deficit down to 4 at one point in the third quarter at 38-34 but Prairie then scored 9 straight points to retake control. A basket by Elven, a 3 by Wemhoff and a basket each by Colton McElroy and Riener made it 47-34. Prairie led 51-38 after 3 quarters.
Logos never got closer than 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Behler led the JV’s in scoring with 15 points while Elven sand McElroy scored 11 each. Riener was also in double figures with 10. Wemhoff scored 9, Lorentz 8, Briggs Rambo 2 and Forsmann 1.
Logos had a 37-47 edge on the boards. Lorentz had 11 to lead the Pirates with McElroy adding 8 rebounds.
Behler had 6 steals while McElroy had 5. Wemhoff had 5 assists.
Prairie was 27 for 60 from the field, 45%, and 10 for 23 at the line, 43%. Logos was 22 for 59 from the field, 37%, and 4 for 7 at the line, 57%.
Logos won the C game, breaking open a close game in the fourth quarter to win 26-39.
