Patriots win twice
ST. JOHN BOSCO 2021-22 GIRLS AND BOYS BASKETBALL SCHEDULESThe St. John Bosco boys basketball team was finally able to get back on the court on Friday, Jan. 28 after a hiatus due to illness and beat Salmon River 54-37 at Cottonwood. They then played a rescheduled game against Deary Monday, Jan. 31 at Cottonwood and won 45-42 to gain a season split against the Mustangs. Vs. Salmon River
The game was tied at 11-11 after the first quarter with the Patriots taking control in the middle two quarters.They outscored the Savages 17-7 in the second quarter to take a 28-18 halftime lead. They then outscored Salmon River 11-5 in the third quarter to take a 39-23 lead into the fourth. Cody Wassmuth led the scoring with 17 points while Clay Weckman added 11. Levi Wassmuth pounded the boards for 17 rebounds to go with his 6 points. Torry Chmelik, Luke Stubbers and Dustin Kaschmitter each scored 6 while Sam Weckman added 2 points. The Patriots built an 11 point lead
after 3 quarters only to see it melt away to just 1 point late in the
game against Deary. Clay Weckman made a pair of free throws late to
give the Patriots their final 3-point margin.The Patriots led 14-8 after 1 quarter and 22-16 at the half. They outscored Deary 12-7 in the third quarter to take a 34-23 lead into the fourth quarter. Deary outscored the Patriots 11-19 in the final frame. Cody Wassmuth led the Patriots in scoring with 14 points while Weckman scored 12. Levi Wassmuth scored 10 points and added 17 rebounds. Kaschmitter scored 4 points, Chmelik 3 and Stubbers 2. The Patriots are now 7-5 on the season and 4-3 in league play. They have rescheduled their postponed games with Timberline and Meadows Valley. Lady Patriots win 2 of 3 The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots made it 4 straight wins when they won at Timberline 34-8 on Tuesday, Jan. 25, and at Highland 42-19 on Thursday, Jan. 27. They then picked up a loss when they hosted Deary on Monday, Jan. 31, 22-46. At Timberline

and Julia Wassmuth each outscored the entire Lady Spartan team as they
held the Spartans to just 8 points.St. John Bosco led 6-2 at the end of the first quarter and 14-4 at the half. They shut out the Spartans 14-0 in the third quarter to take a 28-4 lead into the fourth quarter. Prigge had 14 points and 18 rebounds while Wassmuth scored 12 points. Dani Sonnen added 4 points while Noelle Chmelik and Raylie Warren scored 2 each. The defense shut down the Spartans by forcing turnovers as they came up with 15 steals as a team. An oddity in the game is that St. John Bosco did not shoot a single free throw while Timberline only attempted 2 free throws. Prigge had another big game against the Huskies with 18 points and 18 rebounds.The Patriots led just 9-6 at the end of the first quarter but outscored the Huskies 14-3 in the second to take a 23-9 halftime lead. St. John Bosco extended the lead to 32-13 after 3 quarters and outscored Highland 10-6 in the fourth. Sarah Waters had a big game defensively with 12 steals to go with her 6 points. The Lady Patriots 4-game win streak came to an end during their Senior Night matchup against Deary on Monday, Jan. 31.Prior to the game seniors Jade Prigge and Dani Sonnen were honored. St. John Bosco trailed 8-14 after one quarter and 10-30 at the half. The Mustangs led 14-40 after 3 quarters. Prigge led the Patriots in scoring with 12 points with Wassmuth adding 6 and Rachel Sonnen and Warren 2 each. For the second time in 3 games, the Lady Patriots didn’t have any free throw attempts. The Patriots end their regular season with a record of 4-9, 4-6 in league play. They will be the #4 seed into the District Tournament and will play #5 seed Highland at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4 at Highland due to gym scheduling issues at Cottonwood.
