Lady Pirates lose 3
It was a tough week for the Prairie Lady Pirates as they lost 3 games this past week. On Thursday, April 28, they lost at Orofino 5-16. On Saturday, April 30, they were swept in a league doubleheader by Potlatch, 0-15 and 11-14.
Games against Pomeroy on Wednesday, April 27 and Grangeville on Monday May 2, were cancelled due to weather and will not be made up.
The game at Orofino started well as Prairie scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning. Delanie Lockett led off with a walk. Mackenzie Key followed with a single to left and Lockett was able to score when the ball got away from the left fielder as Key went to second. Tara Schlader reached on an error as Key went to third. Prairie pulled off a double steal as key scored. Josie Remacle singled to right center to score Schlader. Gracie Farr reached on catcher’s interference and Riley Enneking was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ember martin reached on an error as Remacle scored but on the play, Farr was thrown out at third to end the inning.
The lead didn’t last long as Orofino scored 4 in the bottom of the inning on 3 singles, 3 walks and 3 errors.
Prairie went down in order in the top of the second and Orofino took the lead with 4 runs in the bottom of the second. They had 5 hits and a walk to scored their 4 runs.
Orofino added 4 more in the third for a 4-12 lead on 2 walks, a single and a 3-run homer.
Prairie scored in the top of the fourth as Laney Forsmann led off with a single, went to second on Kaylie Lockett’s groundout and scored on Martin’s single to right.
That was all the scoring for Prairie though as Orofino added 2 runs each in the fourth and fifth to win the game on the 10-run mercy rule. The 2 runs in the fifth came on a 2-run homer, which is why they won by 11 instead of 10.
Prairie had 5 hits in the game. Remacle had 2 singles and an RBI. Martin had a single and an RBI. Key and Forsmann each had a single.
Key pitched for Prairie and gave up 16 runs on 14 hits with 8 walks and 1 strikeout.

The games against Potlatch were scheduled as home games but were moved to Lewiston’s Airport Park due to field conditions in Cottonwood.
In the opening game against Potlatch Prairie was able to muster only 2 hits against Potlatch pitcher Rebecca Butterfield, a single each by Key and Schlader.
Potlatch meanwhile had 8 hits including a triple and took advantage of 5 Prairie errors to score 9 runs in the first and 6 more in the second and end the game after 3 innings on the 15-run mercy rule.

The second game against Potlatch was much more competitive.
Each team had their #2 pitcher starting with Schlader in the circle for Prairie and Josie Larson for Potlatch.
Potlatch scored 1 in the second and 4 in the third for a 0-5 lead but Prairie answered with 5 runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game.
Potlatch answered with 5 in the fourth but Prairie got back within 1 with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning.
Potlatch added 43 more in the fifth and Prairie was unable to answer.
The Pirates made it 10-13 with a run in the sixth. Butterfield went back to the circle to get out of the inning.
Potlatch added a run in the top of the seventh. Prairie was able to finally score a run against Butterfield in the bottom of the seventh but 1 run was al they got.
Prairie outhit the Loggers 7-6 in the game. Remacle had a single and a homer while Schlader had a single and a triple. Key had a pair of singles and Martin had a single.
Prairie is now 7-7 overall and 6-5 in league play. They have 3 league games left to play, C.V. on Thursday and a doubleheader against Lapwai on Friday all currently scheduled for Cottonwood.
They are guaranteed to at least be in a District play-in game next Tuesday, May 10. Opponent and site yet to be determined.
