To the Editor
Thank you Father Paul for making it a special occasion for the 110 years that Holy Cross Church was consecrated in Keuterville. Holy Cross families donated and cooked and set up tables for the occasion. The desserts made by Jeanne Kuther were extra special. You finished it off with a beautiful Mass celebrating the Fest of the Ascension of Our Lord and tribute to all people in the service to our country. The singing filled the church with joy and gratitude for each of us.
Thank you again Fr. Paul.

To the Editor
In Governor Little's Guest Column (Free Press 5/25/22), he seems to have mentally blocked out his actions of the past two years. He says “Idaho must remain a beacon for capitalism, limited and accountable government, family and freedom.” Excuse me?
A beacon of capitalism? Maybe, if your business is big enough or “essential” enough. Otherwise, we'll just crush you out of existence or arrest you if you try to stay open.
Limited and accountable government? How about unilateral Executive action with no Legislative oversight.
Family? How about removal of Parental Rights and arresting mothers for taking their children to the park for some fresh air, sunshine and play time. Oh, and what about tossing thousands of parents out of work so they are unable to feed their children, or skyrocketing child and spousal abuse and suicides.
Freedom? That's a good one! As long as you stay home, or wear a mask, or “socially distance” or don't go to work or attend church services.
You took in billions of strings attached money from the Feds, created out of nothing, and we are currently reaping the inflationary results. Now you boast of Idaho's economic success and send the people rebate checks. It might make you look good but, it is a fake “prosperity” with a high cost to the people.
Governor, you can fool yourself and a lot of Idahoans with your $2 million dollar ad campaign and rebate checks.. But, you can't fool everyone. Remember, it is not over until it's over.

Redneck Review!

No. 370 - 5/29/22
An afterthought! Hey, it is the AMERICAN WAY!  And what is that might be asked? Well, the thought hit me some days ago that the decision facing SCOTUS (The Supreme Court of the United States) really should be easy if the established traditions our country was founded onhold true!  It is very simple, really!  Seeking FREEDOM, our forefathers risked everything to come here and set up a new life free from the dictates of the person in charge!
People who know history know that King Henry VIII was a Catholic, until his first wife could not give him a son! Catherine of Aragon did give birth to four children, first a girl, then three boys, none of whom lived long enough to be a male heir! So Henry appealed to the Pope to permit him to marry new wives, but refused, he simply started a new religion, and in the following years, married one after the other, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Paar. Some of his wives he executed, and none gave him a male heir!
History also tells us that Henry began demanding that followers obey him, and even executed two of his closest advisors, Sir Thomas More, and Thomas Cromwell. Why? Because they did not approve of the king's decisions!  As king, with the power of kings in those days, his subjects were required to obey him! So told what to do, Englishmen started the treacherous trip to the new land, for the FREEDOM to choose their religion, and way of life.
What followed over the centuries (1492-1788), was that a new government was set up with an emphasis on FREEDOM! The first national government, under the Articles of Confederation, simply did not work! It gave so little power to the national government, that it could not demand the payment of taxes, or the drafting of men into a military!  Why so weak?  Because leaders, still remembering why they came here, and the later dictatorial demands of King George III, refused to give up the FREEDOM they had risked their lives for and fought so vigorously to keep!
Briefly the new Constitution, implementing the words of the Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their CREATOR with certain unalienable rights, among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness." In brief, our founders set up a REPUBLIC, simply represented clearly by the diagram:  God-->People-->States-->National Government. Interested people can prove each step in the diagram by doing research! Just read Article I, Section 8 to see the small list of powers GIVEN to the new national government BY THE STATES! Then read Amendment 10which says "Powers not granted to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited to it by the states, are reserved to the States or to the people." Then read Article V of the Constitution which gives states the power of amendment, meaning they  can expand or reduce the power of the national government! In other words, the states are THE BOSS, and were given the power to establish and control the national government!  Do not forget the diagram above! States had to answer to the people, creators of state governments! And easily proved is that the people were expected to set up governments which professed belief in a Creator God, and the various religions, most of which were Protestant, and the Bible as their reference book!
But what do we have today, and for several of our last national governments? Government by decree of Presidents! Would someone tell me how this is different from dictating kings of old! Is not our national government dictating in areas nowhere authorized by our Constitution? Would it not be the "AMERICAN WAY" which has made us the envy of nations and the MOST FREE of all, if SCOTUS would simply overrule Roe vs. Wade and send the decisions on abortion back to the states and the people as our Constitution states?  Is it not  TIME TO CHANGE!!
