Idaho County announces public review period for hazard plan update
Idaho County Disaster Management started a
public review and comment period for the updated Multi-Hazard
Mitigation Plan. Beginning September 1, 2022, the draft can be viewed
online on the Idaho County official website under the “Announcements”
heading, or by following the link provided below. This public review
and comment period will end on October 1, 2022. The purpose of the public review period is to give residents of Idaho County and interested parties an opportunity to review a draft of the Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan update. People can also ask questions or submit comments to Idaho County Disaster Management, or to the planning consultants with Northwest Management, Inc. (see contacts listed below) The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires counties to update this plan every five years to remain eligible for federal funding for hazard mitigation projects. The plan specifically addresses the natural hazards of flood, earthquake, landslide, severe weather, and wildland fire. The plan explores how these hazards affect Idaho County, assesses risk and vulnerability, and then examines ways to mitigate the hazards. Since the spring of 2021,aplanning team has been working with Disaster Management to update the previous plan. This planning team consists of representatives from the cities and communities, various fire districts, county staff, health districts, the Idaho Office of Emergency Management, and consultants from Northwest Management, Inc. Once a final draft of the plan is agreed upon by the planning team and reviewed by all pertinent parties, it will be submitted to the Idaho Office of Emergency Management and FEMA for approval, then adopted by the cities and the county through official resolution.
