Lady Patriots start season 3-0 ST. JOHN BOSCO
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots got off to a 3-0 start to the season. On Monday, August 29 they beat Meadows Valley at Riggins. On Tuesday, August 30 they outlasted Timberline 25-21, 23-25, 24-26, 25-22, 15-5 at Cottonwood and on Thursday, Sept. 1 they defeated Highland 25-22, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20, also at Cottonwood. The first home match for the Patriots was very evenly matched until the final game.
SJB opened strong with Noelle Chmelik serving them to a 5-0 lead with 3 aces plus a kill by Serinah Palmer. Timberline answered with 4 straight points and it was close the rest of the way. Timberline took an 8-10 lead then missed a serve. Rachel Sonnen then served 4 straight for a 13-10 SJB lead. She had an ace while Sarah Waters scored a pair of kills and Raylie Warren added another. Timberline came back to take a 14-15 lead then the lead changed hands 3 more times before SJB took the lead for good at 19-18 on a missed Timberline serve. An ace by Makayla Rose and a kill by Waters made it 21-18. Timberline then got within 1 at 22-21 before a tip by Waters scored a sideout. Waters then added a kill on a free ball and Sonnen finished off the game with an ace. SJB led early in the second game until Timberline took the lead at 3-5. The Spartans held the lead the rest of the game, leading by as many as 7 at 10-17. SJB rallied back to within 1 at 20-21 and then tied it at 23-23 after 2 aces by Rose. A net violation scored the sideout and Timberline score a kill to even the match at 1 game each. In the third game Palmer scored a kill and Chmelik added an ace for a 2-0 lead. After trading sideouts, Sonnen served SJB to a 7-1 lead. Sonnen had an ace with Warren scoring 2 kills and a net violation adding another points. SJB held the lead until Timberline got a big serving run late. SJB missed a serve to make it 20-15 then Timberline scored 7 straight points to take a 20-22 lead. SJB scored on kills by Waters and Chmelik and an ace by Warren for a 23-22 lead but Timberline scored a sideout and an ace for a 23-24 lead. Waters won a joust at the net to tie it but Timberline then scored 2 straight for the win and a 1 games to 2 lead. In game 4 Timberline scored first but then missed a serve. Chmelik served 3 straight aces for a 4-1 lead. Timberline came back for leads of 5-6 and 6-7. Julia Wassmuth then scored a kill and served 2 aces for a 9-7 SJB lead. SJB was able to lead 12-9 before Timberline came back to tie it at 12-12. SJB answered with 4 straight points, 2 of them on aces by Chmelik to lead 16-12. Timberline again came back and took the lead at 19-21. Back to back kills by Waters tied it but a missed serve put Timberline back on top. Waters then scored 3 straight kills and Chmelik ended the game with an ace as SJB tied the match at 2 games each. The final game was all SJB as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed. Chmelik had 2 aces in the opening 4-0 run and Palmer and Warren each added a kill. 8 of the next 9 serves were sideouts but SJB scored the only serving point on a kill by Sonnen. After a sideout kill by Waters made it 9-4, Sonnen served 2 straight points with an ace and another kill by Waters for an 11-4 advantage. After trading sideouts, Waters was able to finish off the match. She served 2 aces and Warren scored the match winning kill. Waters had 23 kills, 3 assists and 3 aces in the match. Palmer had 14 kills, including a block. Warren had 11 kills and 2 aces. Wassmuth had 5 kills including a block, 23 assists and 2 aces. Chmelik had 3 kills, 25 assists and 12 aces. Sonnen had 3 kills and 7 aces. Maleah Cummings had 1 kill and Rose had 2 assists and 4 aces. Vs. Highland
In the match against Highland Julia Wassmuth had 15
assists and six aces while Raylie Warren had 10 kills as the Patriots
moved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in White Pine League play.
