Lady Pirates have busy week The Prairie Lady Pirates had a busy week of volleyball as they split a home tri-match last Tuesday, Sept. 20, losing to Kamiah in 5 games then sweeping Grangeville. On Thursday, Sept. 22, they hosted Troy and were swept. On Saturday, Sept. 24, they competed in the Border Battle at Pomeroy winning 3 of their 4 matches against Washington schools. Finally on Monday, Sept. 26, they traveled to Potlatch for a tri-match, getting swept by both Potlatch and Logos. Vs. Kamiah The Pirates lost to Kamiah by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-14, 23-25, 12-15.Prairie fell behind 3-7 in the opening game then Tara Schlader served the Pirates into a 9-7 lead. She had 2 aces while Julia Rehder, Riley Enneking and Kylie Schumacher each added a kill. Prairie built their lead to as many as 5 points at 17-12 and 19-14, only to see Kamiah rally back. The Kubs tied it at 22 before Alli Geis scored on a tip. Geis then scored on a block and Schlader smashed down the game-winner. The second game was played close all the way with neither team leading by more than 4 points. Prairie trailed by 4 at 10-14 but after a missed Kamiah serve, Schlader served 3 straight aces to tie the game at 14. Prairie then took their first lead since it was 6-5 at 16-15 when Rehder scored a kill. Kamiah took back the lead but Prairie was able to regain the lead at 20-19 on a kill by Geis. That would be their final lead although Prairie did manage to tie it at 22 before Kamiah scored 3 of the final 4 points. Things were even in the third game until Kristin Wemhoff got a service run going. Enneking scored the sideout to put her on the service line at 4-4. 3 straight kills by Rehder followed with Enneking adding another kill for an 8-4 lead. Prairie increased the lead to 13-7 after 2 aces by Rehder and to 16-8 after an ace by Geis and a kill by Schlader. Kamiah got back within 5 at 18-13 but a back row kill by Wemhoff and a kill each by Geis and Rehder made it 21-13. After a pair of sideouts, Enneking served an ace, Rehder scored a kill and Enneking finished off the game with another ace. Prairie had a 2 games to 1 lead. Prairie led 5-3 in the fourth game when Kamiah made a run. They got 7 straight points to take a 5-10 lead. Prairie got back within 1 at 10-11 but couldn’t retake the lead. Kamiah led by as many as 6 at 14-20 before Enneking served the Pirates back within 2 with an ace plus a kill each by Wemhoff and Rehder. Prairie got within 1 twice more, but again couldn’t even tie, much less take the lead. 2 kills by Schlader cut the deficit to 22-23 before Prairie missed a serve. Another kill by Schlader made it 23-24. A spike that went wide gave Kamiah the game-winning point. That led to a decisive fifth game and Prairie took a 2-0 lead on 2 kills by Schlader but Kamiah answered with 4 straight points. A block by Taylor Riener and an ace by Schlader gave Prairie a 5-4 lead. They led again at 6-5, 7-6 and 8-7 but Kamiah then strung 3 straight points to take the lead for good. Kamiah led 10-14 before a kill by Schlader held off one match point and a free ball by Lexi Schumacher held off the next before a missed serve ended the match. For the match Geis had 17 kills, which included 3 blocks, and 2 aces. Schlader had 16 kills, 4 assists and 7 aces. Rehder had 15 kills, 1 assist and 4 aces. Lexi Schumacher had 6 kills, 55 assists and 4 aces. Enneking had 6 kills, 7 assists and 5 aces. Wemhoff had 6 kills and 2 assists. Riener had 4 kills, which included 2 blocks, and an assist. Kylie Schumacher had 1 kill. Prairie won the JV match 10-25, 25-22, 15-8. We don’t have details as the match was going on at the same time as the varsity match. Vs. Grangeville The Lady Pirates bounced back from their loss to Kamiah to sweep Grangeville 25-20, 25-23, 25-15.The first game didn’t start well for Prairie as they fell behind 2-6. They didn’t take their first lead until a 3-pt. service run by Lexi Schumacher made it 12-11. She had 1 ace and Enneking had a pair of kills. The lead didn’t last long though and Prairie didn’t lead again until an ace by Wemhoff made it 16-15. After Grangeville tied it, Rehder scored a kill to put Prairie back on top and Lexi Schumacher added a free ball kill and Enneking scored an ace to make it 19-16. The teams battled back and forth until Schlader scored a kill and then served up an ace to give Prairie the win. The second game was probably closer than it needed to be as Prairie struggled at the serving line, missing 7 serves in the game. They missed two in a row after taking their first lead then got the lead back on a kill each by Rehder and Schlader. Geis added a kill and Schlader a block for a 10-6 lead before another missed serve. Grangeville was able to rally back to a tie at 12-12 before a kill and then an ace by Schlader put them up 14-12. Prairie missed 4 more serves which allowed Grangeville to keep it close and even take a 21-22 lead when they got a string of 4 straight points. A back row push by Wemhoff tied it but a violation again gave the Bulldogs the lead. Another back row kill by Wemhoff put her at the service line where a kill by Rehder and a game winning ace ended it with a 2-point win. In the third game Prairie regrouped at the service line and didn’t miss a single serve. It was close early on with Prairie not really creating any separation until Enneking took over the serve at 17-13. She had 2 aces and Rehder and Lexi Schumacher each added a kill for a 21-13 lead. After 4 straight sideouts, Geis served out the match with 2 straight aces. Schlader had 17 kills in the match, including a block, plus 2 assists and 2 aces. Geis had 11 kills, including a block, with an assist and 4 aces. Rehder had 10 kills and 1 assist. Wemhoff had 9 kills, 1 assist and 3 aces. Lexi Schumacher had 5 kills, 38 assists and 2 aces. Enneking had 3 kills, 6 assists and 5 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 2 kills. The JV team swept Grangeville 25-21, 25-11, 15-9. Vs. Troy In a home match against
league unbeaten Troy the Lady Pirates played tough in the first game
but still lost in 3 straight, 24-26, 16-25, 18-25.Troy also won the JV match, no scores available. Border Battle On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Border Battle was revived after a 2-year hiatus due to COVID and Prairie helped Idaho win for the 10th time out of 12 times the tournament has been held.Prairie beat Colton 25-19, 25-18; lost to Pomeroy 23-25, 25-22, 12-15; beat Touchet 25-13, 25-12 and beat DeSales 25-21, 25-13. Kamiah and Grangeville were the other Idaho teams. Potlatch was supposed to be the fourth team but dropped out. Vs. Colton Prairie

Schumacher followed with a kill to turn a 4 point edge into an 8 point
lead. Colton then fought off 3 straight game points before Schlader scored the game-winning kill. The second game saw Prairie trail only once, at 4-5. They took the lead for good at 8-7 when Enneking scored on a dig. Schlader had a service run that broke the game open as she scored a sideout kill to make it 11-9 then served Prairie to a 16-9 lead. She had 3 aces with Rehder and Riener each adding a kill. A kill each by Rehder and Geis gave Prairie a 19-11 lead then Colton rallied back to within 3 at 19-16. That was as close as they would get. Vs. Pomeroy Host Pomeroy was the only team to go undefeated at the tournament but had hard-fought 3 set wins over both Prairie and Kamiah.Prairie took a quick 2-0 lead in the opening game but a 2-7 run by Pomeroy gave the hosts a 5-10 lead. They led 7-14 before Prairie rallied back into it. A dig by Enneking sent Rehder to the service line where she served Prairie into a 14-14 tie. She had 2 aces while Geis had 2 kills and Schlader and Lexi Schumacher each added one. Prairie finally took the lead at 19-18 on a kill by Geis with an ace by Wemhoff and a block by Geis giving Prairie a 21-18 lead. Prairie led 23-21 when Pomeroy took over the game, scoring the final 4 points. Pomeroy looked like they had a sweep in mind as they jumped out to a 1-5 lead in the second game. They eventually led 11-16 when Prairie started to rally. A 10-4 run gave Prairie a 21-20 lead with Wemhoff serving 2 aces. Rehder served an ace while Geis had 3 kills plus a block, Schlader added a kill and Kylie Schumacher had a block. Pomeroy tied it at 21 but a kill and then an ace by Geis made it 23-21. After a Pomeroy sideout, Schlader scored a kill and Lexi Schumacher finished the game with an ace. In the decisive third game, Pomeroy jumped out to a 2-10 lead. A kill by Geis led to a 3-point service run by Enneking as Prairie got back into the game at 6-12. After 2 Pomeroy points, Rehder scored a kill and then served 2 straight aces. Geis scored a kill and Rehder served another ace. A dig for a kill by Rehder tied it at 12. Pomeroy got the sideout and then were able to serve out the match. Vs. Touchet Prairie’s next opponent was Touchet, who didn’t win a single match on the day.Prairie was able to get considerable playing time for their bench players with Holli Schumacher having a 4-point service run in the first game that included 2 aces and put Prairie up 12-4. Geis had 3 aces with Riener adding a kill to make it 18-7. Kailey Lockett served an ace and Holli Schumacher was able to serve up 2 aces to end the game. In the second game Chloe Rowland served an ace and Riener added a kill as Prairie took a 4-1 lead. Holli Schumacher served another ace and Lockett served 3 aces in a 4-point run that made it 12-4. Prairie lead 15-10 when Lexi Schumacher took her second service turn of the game and almost served out the match. She had 7 aces while Schlader and Riener each added a kill as Prairie took a 24-10 lead. Touchet scored 2 points before missing a serve that ended the match. Vs. DeSales Prairie’s last opponent of the day was DeSales, a Catholic high school from Walla Walla.DeSales took the early lead and held it until Rehder scored a kill for a sideout and Geis scored a block and Schlader a kill for a 12-10 lead. It stayed close but Prairie never trailed again, leading by as many as 7 at 20-13. Prairie lead 23-17 before DeSales rallied with 4 straight points to get within 2 at 23-21. A kill by Geis and an ace by Rehder gave Prairie the win. In the second game DeSales again took an early lead at 1-3. A net violation sent Wemhoff to the service line. Geis scored a kill and Wemhoff served an ace to give Prairie their first lead. Geis added another kill and Prairie never trailed again. A 3-point run that included 2 aces by Lexi Schumacher gave Prairie a 13-7 lead. Two aces by Wemhoff made it 18-9. A kill by Schlader sent Geis to the service line and she had 3 straight aces to get to match points before missing a serve. Schlader then scored the match-winning kill. For the day Schlader had 34 kills, 1 assist and 8 aces. Geis had 30 kills, which included 4 blocks, 1 assist and 11 aces. Rehder had 27 kills, 1 assist and 8 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 11 kills, which includes 1 block, and 1 assist. Riener had 10 kills, which includes 1 block, and 2 assists. Lexi Schumacher had 9 kills, 82 assists and 17 aces. Enneking had 5 kills, 11 assists and 5 aces. Wemhoff had 3 kills, 1 assist and 7 aces. Holli Schumacher had 2 assists and 5 aces. Lockett had 2 assists and 4 aces. Rowland had 1 ace. Vs.
