Lady Patriots split two league matches ST. JOHN BOSCO
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots split a pair of league matches this past week. On Thursday, Sept. 22, they hosted Kendrick and were swept 10-25, 11-25, 18-25. Then on Monday, Sept. 26 they traveled to Craigmont and swept Highland 25-20, 25-17, 25-23. We don’t have any further details on the Kendrick match but at Highland the Patriots played 3 tough games with the Huskies. Sarah Waters scored 3 early kills in the opener as SJB took a 4-2 lead. 11 straight sideouts followed before Highland scored a pair of points on serve to take a 9-10 lead. SJB then fell behind 10-16 as Highland’s Kadence Beck put together a 5-point service run before missing a serve. SJB came right back with their own hot server as Waters served 6 straight points including 4 aces while Serinah Palmer added a pair of kills as SJB took a 17-16 lead. SJB never trailed again in the game although Highland tied it at 17 and again at 20. Palmer scored a block to give SJB a 21-20 lead then Raylie Warren served out the game. Noelle Chmelik wound up scoring the game winning kill. In the second game SJB fell behind 4-7 but a missed serve followed by an ace by Julia Wassmuth and a kill by Warren tied it at 7-7. After a sideout kill by Warren tied it again at 10-10, Chmelik served SJB into the lead. A kill by Waters, an ace by Chmelik, a dig that found floor by Chmelik and a kill by Waters made it 14-10 and SJB held the lead through the rest of the game. SJB did a great job siding out Highland’s serves as the Huskies scored just 1 point the rest of the way when they were serving. The third game saw the lead change hands several times. SJB led 2-1 then trailed 4-5. They led 7-5 after 2 aces by Waters then fell behind 8-10. Wassmuth served the Patriots back into the lead with 2 aces plus a kill each by Warren and Wassmuth. That made it 13-10. Highland came back and built a 15-19 lead. A net violation ended that run and Chmelik served SJB back action the lead. Waters had 3 straight kills to tie it and an ace by Chmelik made it 20-19. Highland led one mor time at 21-23 before netting a serv. Waters then served out the match. She had an ace and Wassmuth and Palmer each added a kill. For the match we had Waters with 14 kills, 2 assists and 8 aces. Warren had 10 kills, 2 assists and 1 ace.
