Lady Pirates' season ends
The Prairie Lady Pirates saw their season come to an end with a 17-25, 22-25, 26-24, 14-25 loss to Potlatch on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at theAlli Geis makes a play at the net. District Tournament at the LCSC Activity Center in Lewiston.
The loss left them with a 5th place finish at District.
In the opening game Prairie scored first when Lexi Schumacher served an ace. However that was they only lead they had in the game.
The last time it was tied was at 3-3 then Potlatch scored 10 of the next 13 points for a 6-14 lead.
Prairie was able to get back within 5 at 14-19 after 2 aces by Julia Rehder. They again got within 5 at 15-20 after a sideout kill by Tara Schlader but that was as close as they would get.
They again scored first in the second game on a kill by Kylie Schumacher and an ace by Lexi Schumacher.
Potlatch took the lead for good with a 3 point service run that made it 4-7.
Prairie got back within 1 on a kill each by Alli Geis and Rehder at 6-7 but then fell behind by as many as 5 at 7-12.
They again got within 1 at 13-14 after a kill by Rehder.
They were able to stay close but couldn’t quite retake the lead.
Their last big rally came at game point when Potlatch scored on an ace to make it 19-24.
Kylie Schumacher scored a sideout kill, Lexi Schumacher served an ace and Schlader scored a kill to cut the lead to 22-24 before Potlatch finally got the game-winning kill.
For the third straight game Prairie scored first when Potlatch was called for a net foul.
Poltatch came back to take a 3-4 lead but a kill by Geis tied it. A kill by Schlader and a block by Geis made it 6-4. Another net violation made it 7-4.
Potlatch got back within 1 at 7-6 before missing a serve.
During that rally Geis left the game with a leg injury and didn’t return. Taylor Riener took her place in the lineup.
Rehder served an ace and then missed a serve. Schlader scored a sideout kill and Riener served 2 aces for a 12-7 lead.
After 2 Potlatch points Prairie got 2 kills by Schlader and an ace by Lexi Schumacher for a 15-9 lead.
Potlatch then looked like they were going to take control as they scored 10 of the next 11 points and took a 16-19 lead.
Kylie Schumacher scored a sideout kill and Kristin Wemhoff scored on a dig to make it 18-19.
Prairie was down 19-21 when Rehder scored a sideout kill and then served 2 aces. A kill each by Lexi Schumacher and Schlader made it 24-21.
A sideout and then 2 more points by Potlatch tied it at 24. After a Prairie time out, Schlader scored a kill and then Kylie Schumacher scored a game-winning block. It was the first single set win by Prairie against Potlatch since the 2020 season.
All that seemed to do was make Potlatch made though as they jumped out to leads of 0-6 and 3-13 in the fourth game.
Prairie was able to cut the lead down to 4 at 14-17 after an ace by Kylie Schumacher and 2 kills by Schlader but Potlatch then scored the next 6 points and went on to close out the match.
Schlader had 19 kills in the match plus an assist. Rehder had 11 kills, 3 assists and 6 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 11 kills, including 3 blocks and 1 ace. Geis had 6 kills, including 2 blocks. Wemhoff had 4 kills and 1 assist. Lexi Schumacher had 2 kills, 41 assists and 6 aces. Riener had 1 assists and 2 aces.
Prairie ends their season with a record of 9-13.
