Lady Pirates win twice The
Prairie Lady Pirates won a pair of league road games last week. On
Thursday, Jan. 12, they won 65-29 over Clearwater Valley at Kooskia. On
Saturday, Jan. 14, they won big over Logos at Moscow, 90-17. At C.V. In the game at Kooskia,
Tara Schlader won the tap and that led to a quick 3-pointer by Hailey
Hanson. C.V. answered with a basket then Lexi Schumacher scored a
lay-up and then added a free throw. Kristin Wemhoff then scored a
putback for an 8-2 lead.After another C.V. basket, Lexi Schumacher sank a 3-pointer and Wemhoff added a free throw for a 12-4 lead. After another C.V. basket, Prairie closed out the first quarter with 9 straight points. Schlader scored a lay-up. Alli Geis then made a free throw and followed with a putback. Wemhoff then scored a pair of baskets on drives to the hoop to make it 21-6 at the end of the first quarter. A basket each by Schlader and Wemhoff to open the second quarter made it a 13-0 run and put Prairie up 25-6. C.V. then got a 3-point play but Prairie then had another 13-0 run to take a 38-9 lead. Wemhoff started the run with a 3-pointer. Schlader followed with a shot from the elbow. Kylie Schumacher scored a pair of baskets, the second on a putback. A steal by Wemhoff led to a basket by Schlader and Wemhoff closed out the run with a drive to the hoop. C.V. scored on a 3-pointer then Schlader closed out the first half scoring with a putback for a 40-12 lead at the break. Schlader scored on another putback to open the third quarter and Wemhoff followed with a putback to make it 44-12. After a C.V. basket, Lexi Schumacher made a 3-pointer. C.V. then outscored Prairie 2-7 over the next 3 minutes before Sage Elven scored to kick off an 11-0 Prairie scoring run. Wemhoff, Schlader and Wemhoff again scored baskets to make it 57-21 at the end of the third quarter and invoke the running clock for the entire fourth quarter. Elven scored to open the fourth quarter and Schlader scored on a feed from Hanson to close out the 11-0 run and make it 60-21 with 5:20 to play. C.V. outscored Prairie 5-8 over the final 5 minutes with Sydney Shears scoring and a putback and Kaylie Lockett hitting a 3-pointer for Prairie’s final points of the game. Wemhoff and Schlader each had a double-double as Wemhoff led in scoring with 20 points and added 10 rebounds. Schlader scored 18 and led in rebounds with 18. Lexi Schumacher scored 9 points. Kylie Schumacher scored 4. Hanson, Geis, Elven and Lockett each scored 3 and Shears scored 2. Prairie dominated the boards 55-30. Wemhoff had 7 steals and 5 assists while Schlader also had 7 steals. Riley Enneking, Elven and Hanson each had 2 assists. Prairie was 28 for 88 from the field, 32%, and 4 for 10 at the line, 40%. C.V. was 11 for 38 from the field, 29%, and 2 for 4 at the line, 50%. Prairie had their highest score of the season against Logos and this
time they matched that, putting up 90 points for the second time
this season.Prairie scored the first 23 points of the game with the Logos coach using up 3 timeouts in the first 4 minutes of the game. Logos turned the ball over 11 times before they were able to take their first shot. Wemhoff started the scoring with a layup 34 seconds into the game. Lexi Schumacher followed with a drive to the hoop for a lay-up. Wemhoff scored another lay-up to make it 6-0 then Schlader scored the next 11 points. She made a lay-up, a free throw, a lay-up on an inbounds play, 3 straight baskets on putback and then stole the ball and scored to make it 17-0. Hailey Hanson scored on a drive to the hoop. Wemhoff made 2 free throws and Alli Geis scored to finish off the 23-0 run. With 30 seconds left, Logos finally got on the scoreboard with a free throw. Kylie Schumacher then scored a putback to make it 25-1 at the end of the first quarter. Lexi Schumacher opened the second quarter with a 3 and Logos finally scored their first basket of the game on a 3-pointer. Priarie then had a 16-0 run. In that run Lexi Schumacher scored 5 points, Wemhoff 4, Hanson 3 and Schlader and Geis 2 each as Prairie took a 44-4 lead. After a Logos basket, Prairie ended the half with an 8-0 run. Wemhoff and Kylie Schumacher each scored 4 points in that run as Prairie took a 52-6 halftime lead. Prairie made it another 16-0 run by opening the second half with 8 straight points. Lexi Schumacher and Wemhoff each had 4 in that run as Prairie built their lead to 60-6. Logos scored 3 points then it was 8 straight for Prairie. After 2 Logos free throws, Prairie finished the third quarter with 11 straight points. That made it 79-11 after 3 quarters invoking the running clock mercy rule. Priarie was 13 for 15 shooting in the third quarter as Wemhoff was 6 for 7 and Lexi Schumacher was 4 for 5. Enneking was 2 for 2 and Schlader 1 for 1. Prairie outscored Logos 11-4 in the final quarter with Lockett making a 3 and Shears scored 2 free throws while Wemhoff added 4 points to get to 31 for the game and Hanson added a basket. Wemhoff wound up with 31 points to lead all scorers. Lexi Schumacher also outscored Logos with 18 points. Schlader added 15, Hanson 7, Kylie Schumacher 6, Enneking and Geis 4 each, Lockett 3 and Shears 2. Prairie outrebounded Logos 42-17. Kylie Schumacher led the team with 9 rebounds while Schlader added 8. Wemhoff and Lexi Schumacher each had 5 steals while Schlader had 4. Wemhoff and Kylie Schumacher each had 5 assists while Schlader had 4. Prairie was 40 for 72 from the field, 56%, and 5 for 9 at the line, also 56%. Logos was 5 for 25 from the field, 20%, and 6 for 11 at the line, 55%. Prairie is now 11-3 on the season and 7-1 in league play. Prairie won the JV game 44-26. Prairie jumped out to an 11-0 lead as Aubree Rehder scored Prairie’s first 5 points on a 2-pointer followed by a 3-pointer. Sage Elven then scored the next 4 and Ellie Nuxoll scored inside to make it 11-0. Logos then outscored Prairie 6-10 the rest of the quarter with Elven scoring all 6 of Prairie’s points. Kaylie Lockett opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer then Prairie went ice-cold as Logos outscored them 0-6 over the next 5:30 to cut their deficit to just 4 at 20-16. Sarah Lustig scored with 18 seconds left to make it 22-16 at the half. Prairie took back control of the game in the third quarter as they scored the first 11 points and outscored Logos 15-1 in the quarter. Lockett scored 6 points in the quarter including another 3-pointer while Nuxoll scored 3 and Shears, Elven and Elizabeth Severns scored 2 each. Prairie led 37-17 at the end of the quarter. Shears opened the fourth quarter with a putback and then added a free throw. Severns added a free throw to make it 41-17. After 3 points by Logos, Avery Riener scored a free throw and Shears closed out the scoring for Prairie with 2 free throws. Logos scored the final 6 points in the game to close the final margin to 18 points. Elven wound up with 12 points to lead the JV’s in scoring. Lockett scored 9, Shears 7, Rehder and Nuxoll 5 each, Severns 3, Lustig 2 and Riener 1. Prairie had a 64-46 edge on the boards led by Shears with 21 rebounds. Elven added 10 rebounds while Nuxoll and Lockett each had 9. Lockett had 8 steals while Shears had 5 steals and 4 assists. Elven also had 5 steals and Nuxoll added 3 assists.
